Hello All,

I just recently added what appears to be a very old Buck 103 to my collection, but do not know what time frame this knife would have been produced. I have some pictures of it that I will try to post here.

Sorry I had a problem before hosting pictures then went to my ranch for a few days so haven't noticed the problem till now.

There is a link to the pics down the thread

I am unable (or do not know how) to access your pictures. However, if you will post the following info, Joe or I should be able to help you.
Handle material - Likely to be black phenolic, a bowling ball type material, or if rare, could be white melamine (my favorite).

tang stamp - BUCK, BUCK/U.S.A, BUCK/103/U.S.A., or with a year markl after the 103. Year marks began in 1986 so given your feeling that it is an older knife, I do not expect there to be a year mark.

If the knife is a one liner (BUCK only, or BUCK dot), look for a pin through the pommel or a plug in the butt end of the pommel.

If the knife is a three liner (BUCK/103/U.S.A.), it will also help to know how many brown micarta spacers are at the pommel and at the guard. Also, if it is a three liner, do you read the mark with the knife pointed up or down?

With this info, we should be able to give you a time line of manufacture.

Arrive on time, do something fun instead of movie and dinner, listen more and talk less, and end the date early.

:p Sorry. I just can't help. :p :D

Who would want to date an old buck 103? Now a young doe 35 is a different story!!! ;) (I couldn't resist either)

Sorry about the bum links, these pics should do all the talking so I shouldn't need to do much explaining the details. The pics are at this location in the folder so just copy and paste into your browser:

Your old 103 was made approx. 1962 - 1966. It has a pinned tang so is not a bbl.nut model. The Buck dots came in about 1965 or 1966 so this knife fills the gap between 1962 and 1966 give or take.
