What up Hogs

Piglet here. New to the brand and already, straight up junkie. Lurked and drooled for years on this board. Fairly new to the hobby, spent my first few years chasing Butterflies and Spyders, but had my eye on bigger game...Hogs, Dogs and Rats..

Finally pulled the trigger. Tried to be patient and do my homework, tough for a junkie to be patient tho'. SWAT (Not crazy about the G-10, beautiful w/ liners..just prefer micarta, so send it in for a swap or sell/trade towards an ASH-1?? Fat/skinny/standard...want them all,.. another thread) CGAD on order, still kicking myself for not moving on the CGASH so, to punish myself I just touched off on a NMFSH...I may have moved to soon.

Thought I did my work. I knew I wanted a Fusion handle, I knew the FBM was a bit bigger than I was looking for at the moment, Want something more easily carryable, more "all rounder" More knife than chop..Id use it more and in turn love it more..

..saw pics of HOGSH, didnt know at the time what I was looking at, more research,. thru' an impatient addicts eyes.. told me it was a NMFSH. What I had seen originally was a side by side of NMFSH and a HOGSH, second time, when looking for the model name, was a side by side of a Fusion BM and a NMFSH, The differences are compareable to untrained eyes..FBM/FSH to FSH/HOGSH..to me, at first anyway.....yea, laugh it up at the rook and foolish mistake ...I know,...Im retarded....a retarded, impatient junk bag.

So here it is, slightly stressing..only slightly..The NMFSH looks awesome, no doubt I will love it. I know some of the advise will be keep it and get a HOGSH. I will have many more Busse/Kin..but my budget keeps me paced. Withe a little more research I realized the blad in this size Im looking for is the HOGSH...Love/Need the fusion handle...just want it in a sub 9' blade..The SFNO is close..the HOGSH is closer..Can see it in my head, ..Fusion handle, would love it between 7-8' length drop point, somewhere in the .18-.25 thick range..FFG Something in between the HOG and ASH-1 length...7.5' or so..not sure if there is a production like that.. HOGSH seem to fit the bill, w/ SFNO close second ....

So yea..wait for the NMFSH see how it goes. I know Ill love it...just wont field it/use it, as much as something slightly shorter.. and my budget is limited at the moment..Want a knife first, that can chop if need be, rather than a shorter chopper that can be used for some knife tasks, if that makes any sense..(Ive have not overlooked the Basics..they are on my list, the 8 to be specific..another story, another thread..need a fusion handle at the moment) Cant afford to keep it and search for HOGSH...seem harder to find..I can put it up for trade or sale (this is not a test shot, truly looking for advice/guidance)..save monies and order a custom/semi.....or..I dont know...slightly stressin'... too much coffee on top of a slight hangover, maybe..

Not sure if I have a specific question. I know how it works..get 'em, try 'em..sell/trade what you dont like, keep what you love..I know. I also know that w/ the NMFSH, SWAT and the AD, I will have all I need for knives..wouldnt need another knife, ever...WTF is the fun in that?

Great crew here. Happy to be a small part, looking forward to learning, contributing and going broke..

Thanks for any replies, andvice, insight..

Sincerely
Patrick

Honest advice: get 'em, try 'em..sell/trade what you dont like, keep what you love

:D

Welcome to the madness

Patrick,

I've been in your shoes for almost a year now. My advise?

Here it is:

Don't stress. Sell your blade for the one you want and will be happy with. Life's too short to stress out about a KNIFE. I'm sure that there's someone here on the boards who will be more than happy to help you find what you're looking for.

IMHO, it sounds like you're looking for a NMSFNO. Not quite fusion handles, but bladewise, exactly what you want. Check it out.

NMSFNO.

Enjoy the search

Try it and move on if you need. Personally, I have regretted every piece I have let go. But I had to let almost all of my INFI go for paying medical costs. If you find you want to try something else, look for passarounds, or make some friends (yes, I know this takes time) that may be willing to do short term loans. A lot less expensive, and generally folks with INFI are great folks.

Thanks fellas, and thank you THT, good advice. Ive been down this road w/ other brands, more intense w/ this brand however..

On the fence, mostly between the SFNO and the HOG, leaning towards the HOG, that fusion handle just does it for me. Would appreciate help from any who could lead me towards the conversion..

Thanks again

The NMFSH is a true beast of a knife. I've got three. ;)
I agree, buy what you love!

You're probably in for quite a hunt for a HOGSH, not a lot of them around or changing hands very often.

Good luck!!!

I fell in love with Busse because of the SFNO, but moved on the the FSH. Colossal blade.

Ickythump, you are going to love it, if you don't, post it on the Forum Exchange and sell it for basically what you paid for it, Have some faith brother, the NMFSH is a great all around Knife!!! Enjoy and Welcome to the Madness!!!

I'd wait to make any decisions until you get it in hand, even better if you can use it some to get a feel for the design. You won't lose much value if you need to sell it after using some, these knives tend to hold their value well even when used but not significantly modified.

I always thought it was termed a HOFSH. The "Grade Letter" is silent. And between the two, I prefer it over the NMSFNO. Balance, feel, etc., just appealed to me over the other one.

Always tough, to sink $500 + into a blade that you have to guess on how it feels and fits your hand. You may be able to find someone who is willing to trade you for what you really want. Good luck with your choice...;-)

wow

Surprised how nimble it feels in hand, for a short sword..lol. It does feel more like a knife than I thought it would. Truly great balance. Hard not to put this to work immediately.

Thanks for all the support and encouraging words..

My advice is to never again, in your entire life, use the word "cray" is either speech or writing.

I think you'd rather a straight up FSH versus the HOFSH. You mentioned a thickness between .18" & .25"... The FSH is .25", and the HOFSH is .32" thick if I remember correctly.

.

Thanks for the deal Tom,

@ Foo You might be right. The blade thickness on this NMFSH works because of the length, any shorter and I think the balance/chopping wouldnt be as good. .18-.25 would be nice and slicey w/ the well executed FFG... It would be tough to part w/ this blade, however.. I just discovered the HHFSH...wish that was still produced. While I prefer a FFG, the high saber works for me on that HH,.. cant remember the blade thickness... Would trade this towards a HH in a minute..

I should go thump on this thing..

The Heavy Hearts were .27" thick, saber ground... They did seem to be the ones that most gravitated to as the ideal out of all the FSH variations. Those would be even harder to come by though... But I think I read on here some reference about HHs at a recent show or ganzaaaa, so I could be wrong on their rarity.

The HOGFiSH is awe inspiring, and I don't think it's balance is off at all. It'd be nice if you were near some porker that has all the variations so you could get you're hooves one them! They are all cool... And if you're really into that look, chances are you'll end up owning all the varieties anyway. :D :D Well, unless you run now  but good luck with that! :D

So... Now that you have a Fusion handle, what do you think about it?

From your initial description of what you want... I would also check out the SARsquatch and the NMSFNO.

ETA: oh yeah... I remember them being referred to as HOGFSHs far more often than HOs. :D
How could you piglets pass up the opportunity to throw HOG into a post?? :p

.

Yup, he described an FSH, though finding a flat ground in .25 will be trickier than the .27 & .32 versions. Most of the .25's are convex saber like this one.
