Hello, I am looking for some help deciding on the best budget knife for edc the two have found that catch my interest are the marttini condor timberjack and the shrade sharpfinger.
I would really appreciate help deciding between the two.

best budget folding knife? i suggest you go to a opnel #8 carbon steel , i think it is a good one for you need.

I believe the marttini is carbon steel and I'm really looking for a fixed blade thanks for the suggestion though.

Hey joe I'm just looking for something on the cheap side that's decent and am looking to spend less than $20 or around $20 for my first knife and have heard good things about marttini knives on YouTube and also good things about the shrade sharpfinger.

I agree with dingy that there are certainly better options out there (many at that), especially for EDC purposes as fixed blades are many times not realistic in that scope. The opinel is a great suggestion though.

As far as your two options, IMO the Marttini is a better knife all around, but for EDC purposes it is probably not realistic. The hard plastic sheath would greatly hinder the purpose of EDC. The schrade sharpfinger is smaller and comes with a leather sheath I believe which would make it a better carry knife than the Marttini.

If you're dead set on a budget fixed blade you may want to consider smaller style knives as they would carry better and be more realistic and applicable to true EDC purposes.
A couple that come to mind are the CRKT Folts Minimalist Bowie and CRKT S.P.E.W., these are neck knives but have built in belt clips which would aid in carry for the EDC function. The SPEW has a decent sized blade but remains a smaller knife which would be a good fixed EDC option. Both are between $20-30

Sticking along the lines of the Marttini, a good Mora and also a Cold Steel Pendleton can both be had for about $14
Another good option for fixed blade EDC would be a Timberline lightfoot mini pit bull, great clip and good blade, about $20-30

Like stated, as far as an EDC, a folder would be much better suited. But if you are set on a fixed blade it would be wise to focus on the carry aspect of the knife more than the actual knife as the EDC portion will be much more of a chore than actually using the fixed blade.
Let me know if you need anything else,
Russ

I really prefer fixed blades and honestly I have no reason not to have a fixed blade since you have to carry your knife in plain sight where I live so yeah no folders thanks for the suggestion though when I'm looking for a folder kershaw will definitely be considered.

Thanks a lot for the detailed reply russ, I feel comfortable with a more cumbersome sheeth actually and since I legally have to carry my knife in plain site where I live I am very deadset on a fixed blade over a folder.

I'm actually going to be buying the crkt obake for myself for my birthday but for now I wanted to start with something quality that I know I will enjoy and and is cheap the marttini is aesthetically pleasing to me I like knives with simple designs and since almost every knife I have owned has been stainless I really want a high carbon blade, oh and the reason I say the cumbersome sheath doesn't bother me is because the only other fixed blade I ever owned had a bulky sheath and I carried that thing everywhere I was allowed to. Plus for my own need to abide by local laws the sheath of the marttini will help make it clearly visible so that's actually a plus.

Of the 2 I'd go with marttini

Better, more practical blade design, better handle grip and ergonomics, and plastic clipable sheath make it a much better suited option for EDC

Also consider Mora Craftline HighQ or Companion
Carbon or Stainless options, very similar design to the marttini...

Cold Steel's peace maker in krupp 4116 deserves look too as an option... As well as Kershaw's antelope Hunter.

Both are well-branded and good knives.

I'd go with the Sharpfinger, having owned a few of the old Schrade-Waldens when they were good. Even today, although Schrade is not what it used to be, it would still make a good knife for general purpose.

While you're at it....Google some used ones dating back a while---esp. the old "Ivory" annuals with scrimshaw and all. As you do maybe you'll run across some of the Sharpfinger history. They are/were certainly one of the classics. Good luck.....

Mora's are equivalent to the Martiini's and come in 3.5", 4", 5.75", carbon and stainless

Here's a Mora Allround 746, 4" stainless

Marttini. A Sharpfinger isn't really the most EDC-friendly of knives, unless one does a lot of skinning, or one is a member of a club of like minded motorcycling enthusiasts. :)

It'll work, and if it does something for you, by all means get it, but the blade profile of that Marttini (or the Moras mentioned by others) is more "all-purpose."

Agreed with what others have said. The Sharpfinger is more of a specialized blade. The Marttiini is a more general use blade shape.

Also, the scandi grind is very easy to learn to sharpen on. The Timberjack is a very good budget blade, as are any Moras (similar prices and sizes and materials for what its worth). From what I understand, the Timberjack is a touch softer on the RC scale than the Moras (more 56-57 compared to 58-59). This means it should be a bit tougher, but also have to be sharpened a bit more frequently. Also, I believe that the Timberjack has a slightly more substantial blade thickness and tang length than the Mora, which would make it stronger overall. Then again, it also weighs an ounce or two more.

So, for a fixed blade under $20... what other options would I consider? Maybe the Cold Steel pendleton hunters? I think those are in the same size/price range. Same thing with the Buck Bucklite max I think.

But honestly, I'd likely get a Mora, or that Timberjack (they're really almost identical in most ways, so maybe just get whichever one is cheaper, or that fits your hand better?).

Good luck with the choice :).

If a cop can see a pocket clip on your dungarees I call that plain sight but I know I'm wrong, right? :)
