That's not it at all, folders are very nice, convenient and also most have pocket clips. as I said I just have a preference for fixed blades. its just one of those stupid personal preference thing that has no rhyme or reason other than I like the aesthetic more.
 
Thanks to everyone who replied I got a good deal on the marttiini little condor which is smaller, actually made for kids and light stuff, its stainless but I'm liking it so far. So much so I'm probably going to spend the $35 on the lumberjack which has a curly birch handle and a carbon steel blade since I really like the way it looks and so far am loving the smaller one I purchased.

That's because fixed blades are superior tools in every way other then pocketability. If you don't mind carrying a fixed blade, it is always the better option.
 
I have a real blind spot when it comes to the whole "Every Day Carry" issue. I could no more carry the same knife every day than I could spend time with only one of my children.

How pathetic does THAT sound? :)
