help deciding on new EDC

Definitely the Spydiechef, and here's why: A shiv that's good for food prep can ALWAYS put some work in, on any given day. It'll also encourage you to cook more, which is good for you.

One poster here, years ago, posted a pic of him doing food prep with some too-small knife. I asked him why he doesn't just use a chef's kitchen knife, and he replied: "The knife in my pocket is the only sharp knife in the house." He had given up on sharpening the cooking knives, because of the way his wife abused them.

Maybe that's not the case with you, but damn, wouldn't it be fun to do food prep with your EDC?

FWIW, I like a light EDC with a 2.5 - 3" blade. So many folks here carry these way-too-big folders for mild EDC duty.

Oh no that’s not the case, the day I got my kme I sharpened just about everything in the house haha including my two spyderco large kitchen knives ( amazing knives btw). But I ended up going to a local business where I buy most of my knives (marks outdoors) I’m sure y’all have heard of it. But anyway I always go in there with a certain knife in mind and leave with another because they give me a great deal on another. Well I was looking around and saw a Gayle Bradley 2 and asked how much. He said he’d let me have it for 100 so needless to say I got it. It’s extremely thin behind the edge for a 3.5 inch blade (.017 at its thickest).

Go with the Spydiechef. I can come up with several reasons not to get the Benchmades.

484 is for small hands only and it's thumbstuds come out too far.
940-1 is not slicey at all. S90v is not easy to sharpen and other steel can last longer ie m390 class of steels. Benchmade has poor qc for the costs.
