Help ESEE 4 or 5

Ordered a 4 this morning but still want 5.think i will wait till they bring the rat pack kit back out and get it with the 5 if still offer it that way.got the 6 and really impressed can't wait to get the 4.

I use an Izula and 4 combo. I want a 6 too sometime in the future, so I don't know really why, because I carry a folding saw when outdoors. Maybe I want it just because I like the other two so much. I never even considered the 5 because of its thick blade and heavy weight. I don't think it would be comfortable to carry this monster on your belt. It might pull down your trowsers, and what would that look like? ;)

I guess you used the 4 for a while now since the thread isn't new. I would be interested in what you think about your combo? Do you still think of the 5, or do you think you made the right choice?

Please share your experience.

You guys are killing my credit card! I've got the Izzy, 3mil, Hest, and 5. Now you got me wanting the 4 and the 6! WTF does it ever end!!!??? Dear ESEE- please stop making different knives-enough already!!!!

I would take the 5. More to hold on to. I guess it depends if your hands are large and manly? The 4 is good but a little on the small side. Guess I like my fixed blades larger. Or I just perfer a pocket knife or Izula. JMO

i can't give you an honest comparison, because i don't own both. i have a 5, a Junglas, and have played around (a little) with the Izulas i bought as gifts. what i can tell you is - i EDC the 5 and never feel like i'm missing out by not having a more knifelike knife nor do i walk with a limp due to the extra 16oz on my right side. i really like the 5. i have a lot of knives (like most folks here), but if i could only keep ONE (yea, i know, that's freakin scary), it'd be the 5.

i have not dressed out any game with the 5 and can see how it might not be as easy as it would be with a thinner knife, but i really believe most of the negativity surrounding the 5's weight/thickness is exaggerated. i too worry a little about the steep angle of the sabre grind reducing the life of the blade, after 100's of sharpenings. i counter this by using a sharpening method that minimizes steel removal.

i'm not into small knives, though, so keep that in mind. the 5's about as short of a blade as i'm comfortable carrying.

Sounds like you wont be doing excessive chopping so looks like the 4 is the way to go. The 4, in my opinion is the best all around ESEE. Its a good chopper and great slicer and tough as hell. $ is the best choice since you already have the 3 :D
