Well I need y'all's help. Has anybody ever had a bad experience trading knives on blade forums? My father says its a bad idea and people can take your knives and not send anything back. I know this can happen but does it?

You could always connect with them via Facebook, Skype, etc. to be more sure of the deal before you send your knife out.

Trades go bad occasionally, but there are a lot of great people here. You will likely be asked to send your side first since you have no feedback. As long as you're dealing with established members who have a fair amount of good feedback you should be fine. I've had excellent trade experiences here!

look at the feedback section of the knife exchange forum and ask a question on who you are thinking of trading with and if anybody has dealt with them they will tell you.
hope this helps,
Thomas

I've done some trading here on BF. I've had good experiences each time. But, I have a checklist for myself. And, I won't trade or deal with anyone that fails even one thing on my checklist.

1. Trader must provide pics of the trade offer.

2. Trader must communicate well, and timely.

3. Trader must have good feedback, no negative feedback.

4. Trader must provide a tracking number for the shipment.

If any of those four are not done I won't trade with them. My system has worked well for me. I provide all of those things for others, and I expect the same in return.

Oh boy where to begin...
Nothing in life is perfect, everything and anything in life has the potential to go sideways for anyone. Anybody tells you different, they are lying through their tooth. This section operates on the trust and integrity of its membership. People have a long memory when things go wrong, and malicious behavior is something that gets you blacklisted quickly. Not only will your negative actions hurt you here, but in almost every other knife and possibly gun forum around; words travels fast.

Can this happen? Yes, of course. Does it happen, yes it does. As I said we operate on integrity and honesty. Not every people with a computer and internet access has those qualities. Before anyone jumps into trying to make deals, I recommend building a presence here. Read a lot, search, make your posts count, and follow the rules. If you are under 18, it's a good idea to be open about that going into a deal with someone. The majority of members here are well over 30 years old.

Just like the daily news, the bad stories get a lot more notice than the good ones, for obvious reasons....

Conversely, the good stories outnumber the bad by about a factor of 1000 to 1....

There are very few bad stories here, and most people get "steered" in the right direction should things go awry....

If you're forthright, honest and above-board, you shouldn't have any problems....

As has been pointed out, get a feel for the X, look at profiles, trust your gut....

And yes, I have been burned (singed is more like it) I sent out an item while I was at the PO with others and I hadn't received payment for it yet. Somebody valued their honor at $10.00....

That was one out of almost hundreds. Pretty good odds in any game.... :)
