Long time reader/fan, first time poster.

I've been carrying my AFCK daily for about two years, and am in the market to find a comparable knife for a replacement while my current knife is still in good shape. Roughly the same size, non-serrated, tool steel (non-stainless), folder, non-liner lock, blade tip up clip carry. Any ideas for a replacement would be great, Thanks.

There's really nothing like an AFCK, but your next bet would be BM 710. Axis lock, D2, perfect action and lockup, good blade.

Thanks, those are all great knives.

I'm not familiar with the Spyderco Military, but it looks like a great knife, I'm just not accustomed to a liner lock. I've looked at the BM 710 before, it just doesn't have that awesome AFCK handle. The BM Rukus looks perfect, but expensive; and while I prefer a high carbon non-stainless blade, the S30V stainless on the 610 may be a compromise that is worth making.

I'm just concerned that I'll drop $200 on a new knife and end up still carrying my AFCK instead.

Well, the 440C steel BM 805 knives seem to be worthwhile looking into. Not a 440C fan, myself.

The handle is the same, just a different blade shape (better for EDC IMO). I have one of the M2 versions in my daily rotation.

No current production knife seems to have quite the same feel in the hand.

The Spyderco Police seems close, though. Not a lockback fan, either.

I'll second the Military D2. I have the S30V Military and it is an excellent knife, with great ergos and lightweight for its size. It is tip down and a liner lock, but the liner lock doesn't hamper the great performance and the tip down is easy enough to get used to. STR can change it to tip up if you really prefer, but I find the Military is perfect as is.

umm, 806…Really nice knife
the other day I received my customly made one
stupid…I should have ordered two

made by Russian knifemaker, Ti liners and clip, micarta, Х12МФ steel (quite close to D2)

Well... its stainless (S30V) and a liner lock (executed perfectly), but you should look at the Blade-Tech Pro Hunter (don't let the name fool you) or MLEK.

They also have a liner lock afck which ive had many of, but yes his happens to be an axis lock version:eek:

The Strider SMFs and SnGs feel great. But, they are more bulky and more expensive than the BM 806. But, something worth checking out.

I'd actually never seen those before, they look great in the pictures. I just can't justify the price right now... maybe after Christmas.

Lenny,

What are the dimensions of Shirogorov's custom 806 copy? What was the price?

I went from edc'ing an original AFCK to a 710D2. I don't know which one I love more.... I'd say the 710 has the edge in ruggedness, while the AFCK is nice and slim in the pocket.

Stay sharp,
desmobob
