Help finding a custom maker

David from otk takes on custom work as well! I gave him the idea for the work and he put it in steel and it came out amazing! Uses top notch steels as well and really knows how to finish and work with his steels. image-1.jpg

Here's another recommendation for Big Chris. I was amazed by his turnaround time and willingness to take into account the particular things I wanted in a blade. He is working with a very nice selection of steels and from what I've seen, works in 3V a lot.

Thanks for the recommendation, beautiful knife!

Heard nothing but good things about this fella - I think I might see a Big Chris chopper in my future

Great thread! Thanks for the link.

I ended up going with James Terrio for this project. More or less all of the suggested makers do incredible work and my mind is already thinking up reasons why I want knives ordered from them as well, these type of threads are dangerous! I will try to keep this thread updated as best I can, right now we've worked out a design based off of my drawing and I've chosen stabilized walnut for scales. His estimation was about 3-4 months IIRC from our emails, so I'll have some waiting ahead of me! :)

Thanks again to all of you for your recommendations, also to the makers who took their time to message me personally.

Have you looked at Fiddleback Forge here on BF? He (Andy) has a forum here and I know his knives are highly regarded.

+1 for Andy at Fiddleback. Most of his blades have been O1 of late, but his stuff is beautiful, and your description of what you want sounds, to me, like one of his several bushcraft models. Of course, I may be biased - I have one on the way at the moment.

OK - nevermind, I didn't read to the end before posting - hadn't noticed that you made up your mind.
Enjoy!

It's been a few months since I contacted James and I just got some WIP pics. The blade is going out for heat treat this week. I'm stoked to try it out!

I promised to post updates and I know y'all like pictures, so here goes!
