Help finding a knife for my son in the Army

A small fixed blade would serve him best, imo. If you want something that will never fail and serve for life, I would recommend Strider. No BS knives that get the job done in any condition no matter what. Depending on blade length and style, DB, DB-L, SA, SA-L, WP, MFS would be your best bet.
