Hi,

Hopefully someone can help me.

I'm look for a knife preferably with a 3.5" to 5" fixed blade with a finger guard,Full tang and preferable with a clip point blade. In a good steel for hunting and bushcraft work.

The closest i've come to find is the bark river socom 5.5 and the fallkniven njord at 5.9" but both blades are just that little bit to large.

I can find plenty in that range without the guard but very few with, it seems to be the fashion nowadays to not have one.

Has anyone got any suggestions because i'm sick of looking :)

Thanks to anyone who replies

Hi carrot,

the only pictures i've seen of the brnt bravo-1 don't have a finger guard on, is their another one with a guard. If so where have you seen it at?

Anyway thanks for the reply.

It has an integral finger guard, due to the handles being thinner than the blade. I remember that being one of the criteria for the design.

Lots of other BRKTs seem to fit your requirements as well...

Buck has a couple of knives you might want to glance over. The Pathfinder has a 5" blade, at the higher end of your length preference. The Woodsman has a 4" blade, towards the lower end of your desired length. The Woodsman has more of a clip point. Both have guards.

Marbles also has some hunting knives with full-length tangs and guards. Specifically, their Classic Series is still made in the USA with carbon steel. Don't know what you'll think of the blade shapes though, there's not much 'clip'.

The smaller Ka-Bar USMC has a full-length tang, full guards, and clip blades.

What's wrong with the Fällkniven S1? 5.1 inches (130 mm), full tang, clip point, finger guard. Shouldn't be too big...

I'm primerally looking for a knife with a bigger guard, elen.
You're right it is a great knife and would be ideal, if it just had a larger double guard.

Step one: choose one of several excellent Bark Rivers.

Step two: throw all of your other knives in a drawer and forget about them. ;)

You're looking for a large double guard in a bushcraft & hunting knife? Traditionally, those are exactly the uses where such guards are not wanted, and for good reasons.

I had a Lone Wolf Loveless Semi-skinner, and I would recommend one to anyone. They also made the 'classic utility', which has more of a drop point blade. The knife was flawless and comfortable, and the factory edge was scary sharp. Some people were put off by the LV-04 steel ('modified' 440B), but it actually performed very well. It was a heck of a nice knife and I'm sorry now that I traded it.

I'll second that. I love my Greco, and I've been impressed with his 52100. I don't know what he coats them with, but it seems to be very wear resistant. Great knives, and he is a great guy.
