They go by 3 or 4 different names. The ones I want are aluminum and they are drilled through. I bought them from Ohio Bag 10 years ago and they are no longer in business.

Here is what I want:

I'm looking for the same ones, but in steel!

I bought mine (aluminum) in a normal hardware store...maybe I was lucky to find them there...heck, I'll go back and buy their whole box :D

I've also heard them called "riv-nut" They're kinda like a pem-sert sort of thing, there is a tool that makes them squish out like a pop rivet. You might be useing them in a way they never anticipated.

A Bud Nealy knife sheath I have used those rivet-nuts as well. I prefer them over the chicago screws I've been using because you don't have a bottom to limit your screw tightening.

Personally when I'm screwing I like to hit bottom...

Sorry, Bruce for dirtying up your thread, just couldn't resist.

How many do you want?
We moved one of the offices of the firm I work for.
They were throwing out a bunch and I snagged them.
I can round up a couple dozen out in the garage.

I bought some at Home Depot a couple of weeks ago. Not the most efficient way to buy them. They take an 8-32 screw.

Best Regards
Dean

Most of the hardware stores around here carry them....in the "specialty fastener" section, called "Post Screws". I've also seen them at Office Supply places like Staples and Office Max, called "Binding Post Screws".

Binding post Barrel (female)
Binding post screw (male)
Sex bolts (I can't believer there are no jokes about this yet)

Would you believe there is a screwpost.com?

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Just to make it more difficult
Has anyone found stainless steel with a hex drive rather than a slot?
??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Binding posts, Page 3064 on McMaster-Carr online catalog.

I use black anodized ones on my E.C.S. knives, and I have ordered from McMaster and Screwpost.com.

Screwpost.com actually sells nicer ones, and for less $$$.
Especially the anodized ones, they have a much better, more consistent finish than the ones from McMaster.

You should be able to find them CHEAP as heck. Shop around a little. I found the 1/4" and 3/8" were the most useful for me. I also used to sand or chop the top of the post off a little if I needed to make them shorter, then discovered "00" rubber washers in the plumbing hardware section of the store and never looked back. I wish I would have known about those in 1998! lol

Wow Thanks guys. You that said screwpost.com have met my need. I just went here http://www.screwpost.com/ and will place an order. They do have the cool black ones too and also in several lengths even have extentions.

I just got off the phone with them. They have a $35 minimum or there is a $7 minimum fee plus the $12 shipping puts these at almost $50 for 100. I'm checking elsewhere.
