When doing a mod, can you use the same hand sanding process (criss-crossing previous grit with successive finer grits) on stainless as on carbon to obtain a near mirror finish?
Sure. S30V is probably going to take a bit longer at each grit than 1095, naturally. You will likely need a buffer to get a true mirror polish, but you can get to that point the same way.
You will be one step closer to being one of the few "great masters" of polishing if you put a mirror polish on S30V, it is a pain. I buff 440C to mirror finish using a slightly modified version of what Steve Johnson does, using machines in every step of the process.
Thanks for the replies! I was thinking 440C. Although a mirror Sebenza is a thought it's not something I want to try by hand and I've learned (the hard way) it's just too easy to screw things up with power tools if you don't have the experience.
