I use the same etcher with great results. My stencils also come form IMG. Call there and talk to Patricia Bruno. She's helped a bunch of knife makers design their marks and understands what we're looking for. With stencils and etching solution on hand, it's just take some cheap mild steel and practise to see what gets you the best mark.

Pat is also who I dealt with, she was great to work with and spent several days tweaking my art until it was perfect.

what kind of etching solution do you use, and how big is your letters

I made a solution of water, vinegar, and salt. I filled a 20 oz bottle of water
4/5ths full of water then added vinegar and a couple teaspoons of salt. I don't know if that's the correct method but my etches are clear enough that I'm not going to change it. I use mine on cpm 154 stainless

The solution I'm using was bought from one of the knife supply houses and it's for stainless (but I use it on carbon as well) and it also came with the cleaning solution as a set.

when do you put your stencils on before or after ht.
i told ya i'm new to this way of marking
