I am not an expert on this style of knife, any help on identifying this knife and cost is appreciated!

Thats a tourist khukuri.. Not worth anything really. Its pretty, but probably not made like a real khukuri, not made to be used. Nice for display though

Yep, the coins are a giveaway. I moved it to the Cantina since it's not an HI blade. I'm sure Spiral will be by soon to confirm the tourist pronouncement.

It is beautifully done...just not beautifully functional. I'd say that it's a keeper, but I wouldn't use it for any chopping.

Welcome to the forum:)

I have seen this shape before, and even picked one up to have an example. It always seems to be used for these high-decorated pieces, rather than simple tools. Some even have humps in the back. Wonder where the shape originated. Why so much steel in a souvenir?

Generally it is known as a tourist item. Anyhow it's better to test it for some cutting and chopping. It might turn out to be outstandingly the best one among it's class. IMH2CO it's performance counts more than it's class.

Yes its sold to tourists, some are made in Nepal but the Chinese also copy & export them knowadays.

Nice buddhist symbols on it.

It might be tempered, but usualy the problems lie inside the handle or the bone splits & buttcap gets loose if used much.

The righthand coin seems to bear the date 2005. That would be 1948 in our system. Not to say that proves anything except it could not have be attached before 1948.

mmmm its definatly not that old, & after all Nepal is written in English, thats for round eyed tourists so mostly likely that means late 60s onwards.

Blade shape looks last 30 years to me. But also things can get to look old very fast in Nepal.

The coins are also sold to tourists, I got about 20 of all sorts with kukris & swords on for £2 in an expensive tourist trap shop in Pokhara.

These kukris are piled up in great heaps on evry market table or hawked by street vendors, often next to genuine but often worn out village kukris. The old army ones or any high quality old ones they only bring out from under the blankets & unwrap them if you refuse to buy the ones on show & start to walk away.

Should cost $5 in Nepal at very most, but if theyll usualy ask you for $30 or so first to see if your daft.

probably worth $35 in USA as a curiosity due to ingraving.. About $20 max in England.{lots more old kukris here.}

The Chinese export identical ones, although often the coins on them are fake, the leather is cured And the steel has a more even finnish.

Anyway, they're selling this for around 10$ and I knew something was strange!
The decoration is quite a work plus the rust which makes this knife look old[original].
Thank for very helpful reply.
