I have been hoping to find/looking for a knife for a while now. The problem was that I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted in it. Now I think I do, and I'd love all of your input and suggestions. I have not found what I'm looking for and most of you are much more knowledgeable than me, so I value your input:

+ blade length between 2.5" and 3.5" (not over, not under. Preferably between 3 and 3.5)
+ non threatening blade shape. Basically something that no one will think looks "stabby" (leaning toward sheepsfoot, but anything works)
+ handle that is comfortable. I don't care if it's only a 3 finger grip as long as it fits (large hands)
+ locking (no need for any high tech hard use type locks. I just will lightly use it to open cans etc)
+ does not have to be modern (can be two hand open/close)
+ preferably with clip (or lanyard hole)
+ any worth while blade steel as long as it can be sharpened with rudimentary skills (so not d2 or anything)
+ absolutely <$100, preferably <$50 (I love high end knives, but I don't want to worry about ruining/losing this one)
+ no preference on maker, origin, etc

Will be used for an in town edc, food prep, etc.

Again,I appreciate any and all suggestions. The more the better. Also, if something fits almost all of the specs just throw it in the mix too! (I realize these are pretty detailed)

Leek or Blur. Pick your blade steel and color preference. Won't break the bank, great manufacturer support, and quality knives overall.

Ontario RAT 1(~$35) and Kershaw Leek ($50) come to mind. You could probably do a pretty decent Spyderco for $50-100 as well. I keep a RAT 1 in my fishing kit and have had no issues gutting several trout with it. I just recently picked up the Leek and have been using it to prune fruits and veggies in the garden. Both have served their purpose pretty well so far and sharpen up pretty easily on the 250/1000 waterstone I use. Good luck finding the one right for you.

Uhh...I say BM Griptilian in sheepsfoot, <3" = mini, >3" = regular. Both will be > $50 but < $100.

Rat-1

Spyderco delica

Manix 2 LW (FFG)

The Rat-1 uses aus-8, which is easy to being to good sharpness easily.

The Manix LW uses CTS-BD1, which I have found to act a lot like aus-8. Not sure about the delica, but it's a slicey mofo.

I'd also recommend trying out a Kershaw Leek. It has a somewhat delicate tip which makes it fantastic for piercing but not ideal for hard use.

Can't believe nobody said a tenacious yet. 40 bucks or less, 3-3/8 ffg, and fits the hand really well.

Best of all, it's proven to be adaptable in most environments.
And especially low keyed....

the Buck 112. im not sure how knives are viewed outside of the Midwest, but around here carrying a Buck knife is about as common as carrying a handkerchief.
