HELP!!! I cant seem to find a good pack anywhere

I have a Blackhawk pack that I think they now call the Tactical Patrol Pack, at least it looks like this one:

Mine must be going on near 15 years now and all it needs is a good scrub to clean it up and you could mistake it for new (well in dim light anyway). It's seen all sorts of abuse during those years from being dragged over rocks to being submerged for a day to carrying books. Best pack I've ever owned although depending on your needs it may be a little large for a BOB.

ranger88, did you find a pack yet? This thread amazed me. Packs of all shapes and sizes can be found everywhere in about every price range. The gammut from Kifaru to eBay has been represented.

You didn't state a size for the pack you desired. Different folks have different ideas as to what a BOB is - some folks pack only bare essentials, and others take everything but the kitchen sink. I have a few different BOB configurations for different seasons and/or trips. If you are looking for more specific recommendations, maybe state a rough size or list of items you'd like to carry. Otherwise, you'll continue to get referred to every pack under the sun.

I saw some inexpensive canvas messenger bags at Target the other day, and the Kohl's Department Store had some nice Jansport slingpacks on sale recently, too. I EDC a Maxpedition jumbo versapack that contains my lunch/snacks and basic BOB items. My work is only about 9 miles from home, so I don't worry about things so much. In the winter, I'll carry a larger kit in a Camelbak HAWG (or simialr pack) with more items and foods, and maybe a second simple bag with extra clothing.

Too true about the differing opinions, sizes, brands, etc. I have so many BOBs, it's hard to remember to rotate stock in each. I use a large contractors box for the family, ammo cans for vehicles that are supplemented by different bags. I use misc. packs and containers for different situations and I try to keep small packs of essentials stocked to rotate in and out of said containers. I think that the best starting place for BOBs, is to consider what it is you plan on having in it, doing with it, and having room for evolution of the contents. As a wiser man than I said recently, "This gear stuff is addicting", too true!

Kifaru again, if you can afford it. Spending good money on essentials is not a waste to me.

Boots
Blade
Pack
compass
Clothes

The rest you can get away with less quality more easily IMHO.
