Help, I need a fixed blade!

Assistance needed please.

I collect and use my knives. This time around I am strictly looking for a user. It must be a fixed blade. My intentions are to edc it and for camping.

I own a Remington fixed blade that meets my criteria. It is one of the last ones made (when Remington was strictly USA). So, it is going in storage.

Knife qualifications: Quality construction is key. Blade must be between 3-4 inches. This makes it completely legal where I reside. However I will consider a tool no more than 4.5 inches. A drop point (or a modification of this blade shape) best fits my needs . A cutter not a pry bar is requested (this would keep the blade thickness under 1/4). Plain edge here...with the tip of the blade being sturdy. The spine full (no false edge here please). A full or a half guard is mandatory. The handle material must be slip resistant. It should not hold heat (if exposed to the Sun for long periods). Remember this is going to be a edc but also a camping knife. G10 comes to mind, but I know there are other options. A big plus on handle shape would be comfort in almost any position. Lanyard a plus but not necessary. I like VG-10, ATS-34, D2, S30V but am open to other quality steels. Full tang only.

Price range under $180. I want something that is in production and easy to obtain. I will not do business on Ebay. No customs. I have yet to save the amount of money needed for a quality custom FB.

Thank you for your input.

you might be suprised at the customs out there around the price you want to pay or for even less.

Check out the Buck Alpha's and Mini Alpha's----for that kind of money ----you can get 2.

I have a couple Bark River's too---nice knives but I despise their sheaths---its a shame too--such a nice knife hampered by such a crappy sheath.

G.L. Drew here on BF sells in that price range quality and custom. I own 6 of his knives and am pleased with every one of them. Stroll over to Makers / fixed blade and look for him. You could have one built to your specks if you want to wait.

For that price range and requirements list you would be foolish not to look at Gene Ingram's offerings.

He offers exceptional value. My #6 with SeaCow springs right to mind....

+1 on the Shadowknives. Excellent knives at a great price.

Thanks Amos!. There are several Amos and I could and would recommend from experience here with Eddie White, however let me show a few off that I purchased here lately.. None of these meticulously hollow ground knives went for more than $130. USD and all of them came with custom molded double sewn heavy leather sheaths.. If you need further information call Eddie and get that nice man working for you.. OH, and BTW, wait time for an average custom knife is around 3-4 weeks.. :)

Thank you all for the wonderful suggestions. I am checking into all of them. It is great to know a custom knife is within my budget. Please keep the ideas coming. This is my present to myself, along with a new trombone (for my upcoming birthday).

sunnyd,
Never get tired of looking at these pics, especially the rams horn you had Eddie make up. When I get around to it, I'm gonna have one made up the same way. Unless of course you'd like to sell yours & save me the wait. :D

If you haven't checked out Wayne Hendrix http://www.hendrixknives.com/ you should.
I picked up the knife below at the Blade Show. The fit and finish , grinds and sheath or dead on. Starting at $90.00 I would consider them a bargain. Larry

You don't see tapered tangs on $90.00 knives.

Hey there Mick,

Sell it...? HMMMM.. I don't know about that. I'll think on that one a while as this is currently my favorite fixed blade edc.

I have currently submitted a brand new fighter design that Eddie is now working on that is quite different than the every day fighter you see around here.. It will also sport Rams Horn scales.

Eddie is the best freehand hollow grinder I know.

Indeed, Eddie does beautiful work & his knives are a bargain. I only have 1 at this point, but will certainly add another down the road. Right now, Smith & Wesson's are taking a major toll on the wallet, so I'm not buying too much in the way of knives. I'm sure you know how that goes with that Glock in your pic. Please do post some pics of your new design when it's ready. No doubt it will be nice.

There are purveyors that carry Ingram & May knives, so you might not have to wait.
Here's the first I found http://www.michiganknives.com/
(Ingram and May are on my short list)
Take a look at Dozierknives.com as well...
You might want to spend an extra $50...hey, what are friends for :D
