Why would that happen? Call Benchmade tomorrow and ask for an omega spring. If for some reason they will not give or sell one to you, you can fashion one out of the core of a low E guitar string if you must. Just make sure you buy a package of steel acoustic guitar strings and not nylon.:D You will have to take off the phosphor bronze sheathing of the wire core.

Why would that happen?

From Benchmade's website:

"This Warranty does not cover normal wear, resharpening of the blade, damage caused by neglect, misuse or the failure to perform normal or necessary maintenance, disassembly of any knife by any person other than Benchmade’s Warranty department, or shipping costs for returned knives.

Do not use your new knife as a screwdriver, prybar, chisel or punch. Do not throw your knife or use it for any purpose other than cutting...Do not disassemble your knife... Any of these acts will void your Warranty. MINIMUM CHARGE TO REASSEMBLE A KNIFE WHEN THE WARRANTY HAS BEEN VOIDED IS $20 PLUS PARTS."

It has been said part of the reason for BM's policy against disassembling the knives is to prevent a number of knives being sent back in ziplock bags from folks who weren't able to re-assemble their knives.

Last time I called, I was told those springs are not for sale (that also meant they would not send it to me). Send it in with the service form from their website. I sent mine in with my broken spring missing, and was given warranty service.

Taking one scale off is not "disassembling." Benchmade is warning people not to send in the "ol' bag o' parts" and to expect free reassembly.

Say your spring broke and you had to remove the scale to clear the obstruction.

I have made a couple replacement omega springs and the one set has been going strong for probably close to two years now. If you want, take the spring you do have left and use it to model a replacement. When you do this you have to make 2 new ones and use them both so that one side isn't stronger than the other and load the lock bar uneven.

I used 0.025" MIG welding wire which has worked great. On a smaller knife like the mini grip you probably want to use 0.022" or as close to the size that came in it as possible. I have found MIG wire, fishing leader wire, and piano wire work good. Here ACE hardware sells piano wire in sections for cheap. A guitar string would probably work good too.

I use needle nose pliers and a tapered punch to help bend smooth bends. I actually just made a set for someone on here and he said they are working good but I'm going to try to get more feedback. If you can't figure anything out let me know and I will make you a pair if you want. Let me know.
