LOL,

I know the concept is laughable, every "quality" maker has long waits...

I am betting though, that there are a few 'unknown' makers who are good, or maybe a maker who is looking to get a blade into a Forum members hands to increase his reputation.

Ths situation is that I have failed to plan in advance and now find myself catching up and need a custom knife made in 2 months, not one day more, less is obviously, OK.

Any info you can help with would be great.

And, oh yeah, I am not made of money, but I understand the market and am willing to pay for what I want, but not a K an inch of blade, not even a C an inch.

Fixed blade or folder? Utility or fighter? I know some makers but each specializes.

Especially if it's a fixed, Alan Folts comes to mind.

He's right next door to Scott Evans of Edgeworks and does a lot of co-development and other friendly deals. It's possible Scott would put sheathing for one of Alan's projects on the "front burner" if it's nothing too R&D-intensive like The Outsider's sheath was.

Marion,

One I suggest is Mark Nevling. He forges his blades out of 52100. I have a nice smaller one on ebay rite now and I know he has a very good selection on hand. He is also very reasonable. If you are interested in any info feel free to email me.

Bob Dozier usually has a number of knives in stock. From there, I would go to Rob Simonich, Tom Mayo, and Trace Rinaldi to check waiting times.

I'd go with Bob Dozier-there are at least 2 stocking dealers that I know of-knifeart.com and retting.com. I don't know just how custom you want this to be or what his wait is, but they have some nice drop points and skinners in stock which would function more than adequately for any defensive needs.

The knife is already designed.

It has a 5 inch handle, 5.5 inch blade, and is 2 inches wide at the juncture.

The spine is flat to the tip, yet due to it's width retains a fair amount of curve.

The handle has a finger swell and lanyard hole. The material will probably be Micarta.

It will be made of Talonite first, and then maybe of a steel.

I should have it scanned in a day or so, then I can show you.

You already know about Newt Livesay for a great economical blade.

As far as Talonite, there aren't that many people working with it, are there?

Rob Simonich (excellent rep) and Traci Rinaldi (another guy with an excellent rep) have some Talonite blades. One other person works with it but I forget their name.

Both of the aforementioned are on this forum.

Whatever your circumstance that you need a custom blade this quickly, is your business, but if you are really in a jam, why not go with a production?

I second Alan Folts as an excellent choice. Good work and somehow underappreciated.

If you're really set on Talonite, Rob Simonich seems to be awfully good with the stuff. I couldn't follow everything he said at Blade show but what I did get seemed to make a lot of sense.

I have heard really good things about Alan Folts. I don't know what his wait time is going to be right now, though. Greenville is one of the worst hit areas in NC after Hurricane Floyd. I don't know exactly where his shop is, but most of that area is under water.
