As of late I have been liquidating some of my knives in order to focus on my one true love, Early red bone Case knives and select vintage knives from other makers... Everything was going great until a few days ago...

In May 2000 I picked up a new Benchmade ATS-34 705. I carried it everyday for about 3 years and it was a great knife ( just happens to be the same size as the mini trappers which is one of my favorite patterns)... Well anyway, I stopped carrying the knife because I really don't like serrations. Last week I got the chance to get a N.I.B ATS-34 705 without the serrations, just happened to be made the same month as my first one. That must have been some kind of sign .

Anyway, after it arrived, it went into pocket and I remembered how much I really liked the first one.. Now I feel like I have betrayed my beloved slip joints and everything that they represent.

Has anyone else fell off the wagon and drifted back to the other side of the fence ???? I know I can't be the only one, so its time to come out of the closet and tell your story. I'll hold off on scheduling an appointment with a shrink for now...... Do they make pills for this ?

You'll be fine. You'll be "back" too. ;). Just a matter of time. :D.

I have a few Benchmades, some MT's, a Lochsa, some Carsons and a few very useful daggers since ya never know when you might have to dag somethin'. They have their uses, but for me the vast majority of the time there is a slipjoint in my pocket, since for the stuff I cut they cut better.

Don't tell anyone, but here is the last knife I purchased.:o

I like alotta different knives,I thought this was the therapy

I used to have a heavenly blue case peanut with a cross inlay. Man it was pretty. Then I saw this spyderco that I had to have so I sold the Case and its twin tiny toothpick. When I dropped them off at the PO i felt an empty feeling in my stomach. I bought so many tactical folders from spyderco and let me tell you Spydies are awesome knives IMO. The empty feeling never went away. Then I bought a case peanut for my dad, and when he gave me his review and told me how much he liked I realized that I needed a Case Sod buster. That was about a month ago. Now I just bought a Case Chestnut CV Stockman and Swayback. The emptyness has gone, and I have sold all but two of my tacticools. If you find a therapist send me the contact info cause my wallet can't take many more beatings like its been getting lately.

I straddle the fence constantly. While I always have a slipjoint in my pockets, I carry a modern folder whenever I can. A good knife is a good knife, whether it's a nice bone handled slippy or a Sebenza.

I thought that was why jeans had so many pockets... for variety!

I've enjoyed traditionals for almost 50 years, but I own and enjoy a bunch of Benchmades, Spydercos, Sebenzas, Kershaws, and others. I've taken a real liking to the Spyderco UK penknife, and now have all 3 colors.

Except for when I am at work (Federal bldg), I almost always have at least one traditional (if not 2) and a UK penknife in the jeans. The Benchmade 705 was one of my very 1st non-traditional pocket knives, and still is a favorite.

As to your original question: We all need therapy...and as Vince said...this may be it. ;) :)

I'm not leavin, I still love the slip joints and this S/F is my home away from home.. Matter of fact after I wrote this thread, I went and got some red bones out and had a little talk with them and they all understood :D

If I start hangin out in PracTac and someone sees me, please give me a swift kick. It will be much appreciated....
I about fell out of my chair when I read the daggin thing, thats great....
Oh and I looked at the pic of your last purchase, VERY NICE

Maybe this little lapse is therapeutic, they say a little variety is good for the soul..

I think tomorrow when I head off to work, I will slip an old mini trapper in the pocket in case I start havin issues while I'm gone...

There's nothing to prevent you from carrying both slippie and one-hander.

I frequently do.

Same problems buddy dont feel bad. I collect and truly love traditonal folders and fixed blades but have some tactical stuff too. I carry a spyderco most days to work cause of the pocket clip and the ease of getting it out of my pocket. I always go back and forth, I think you can be true to both ( but mostly the traditionals) - Joel

I have a few tacticals as well, but never carry them. The only real battle between knife styles is whether to carry a traditional or a SAK.

33, i think the "problem" is simply liking KNIVES. i can assure you that traditionals, both current and vintage, production and custom, domestic and from "away", as well as Tacticals, FB's, FOB's, fancy Gent's (like Bastid's new knife), and so on, all are happy to live together and are patient in awaiting their excursions with you. no need to worry, just keep getting more knives, everyone you like, regardless of it's classification. there is no conflict ! i try to get 1 knife for every post i make in BF !

Well said... Life is short, might as well try different things. The wife says I'm boring and need to expand my horizons lol....

well i know i try to go for the good ole...1 slippie per taticool. so i usually have one of each with me.

Do you know how difficult it is to find cargo jeans--for even more pockets?

I carry and use many knives slipjoints, SAKs, one-hand openers--daily--don't see a problem.

i recently bought a wool vest from AGR; loaded with large pockets, easy to carry 5 knives in the vest alone (even small FBs)!

Personally, I don't think you need therapy, you just need to carry both types of knives, that's all. Now, my Wife seems to think I need therapy, though. She looks at me & shakes her head when we go out someplace & she sees me put a slippie in my pocket, clip a folder onto my pocket, put my gun on, & usually slip a neck knife on, too, lol.

Oh well, enjoy.

Carpenter's jeans are my favorite because they have many pockets. Especially that slim pocket along the side of the leg, I spend some time making sure I got all of my knives out at night.
