HELP - i think i want a Busse!

I would visit the Busse forum, as others have said, and the Busse/Swamp Rat/Scrapyard for sale forum.

Right now, Scrapyard has the Regulator for sale, which is a heck of a knife for the price. It's made of SR-77, which is Scrapyard's version of S-7, which is used in jackhammer bits. It can take a serious beating. I think Swamp Rat might still be taking orders for the Ratmandu, also, which is a great knife. I have two of them.

But within your blade length requirements, you have a ton to choose from. Just browse through the sale forum, and you'll find plenty of fine examples to choose from.

And kiss your money goodbye, because if you buy ONE, you WILL buy MORE. Busses for some reason are like that.

My personal favorite all-arounders are the SJTAC (I have two), the NMSFNO (have 1, best survival knife I own), and the BATAC (I have one, a very good all-arounder as well). But these are the ones I bought... I haven't tried a lot of the others. I hear the ASH is an awesome knife, in any of its configurations, as well. But there are lots. Enjoy your shopping.

If you're willing to spend the bucks for high end and like the style Fehrman Knives are highly recommended and would be my next choice behind Busse.

If you really just want a good solid dependable knife for banging around outdoors ESEE seems to be plenty although I would go Fallkniven.

i just took a look at the Busse gemini, the NMSFNO, the SJTAC, and the BATAC.
would you mind telling what the blade length on those is?

i also really like the looks of the hell razor!

Here is a link that helps describe the Busse models.

As for buying one, the secondary market (for sale forums like this one) seems to be most folks primary source since they are hard to score from Busse themselves.

I have a Becker bk2 and Ranger rd4. Both are great knives. ESEE (formerly Rat) also makes great knives. I think you can find a great knife from one of those companies. 1095 or 5160 is a tried and true camping/hiling steel. You can always get a custom sheath built to your liking.

I personally dont own a Busse and not sure I'd spend the $ on one. I'm too cheap and don't have the $ to throw around like others do. A $60 Becker suits me fine.

just for my understanding: can i call or mail Busse, and order a specific model, maybe even older ones? or are only the models shown on their website(s) directly available from them?

would be interesting to know which knives are currently in production!
because how can i get hold of a hell razor f.e., if i don't want to buy second hand, and they aren't produced no more? unfortunately i don't live in the US, and can't go to one of the blade shows.

@ ron_m80:

you mentioned other options, that will have the features i'm looking for!
what would you recommend?

Fehrman Knives is definitely worth a look. This is a review I did of my new toy, the Fehrman Last Chance. I compared to an SRK which more people know...

You can get a custom sheath made for any knife you want, but a lot of times you need to take it or send it to the sheath maker so they can make a snug fit. The sheath that comes with the Fehrman is just fine...

I have heard nothing but great things about Busse's either, although I haven't had the pleasure of handling one. I would love to get my hands on one though! I just don't like dicking around trying to track down a style that I like second hand. With Ferhman, you don't have to worry about that.

No choice sorry, that's how Busse operates. Don't worry about second hand, most are brand new and never used. ( alot of busse fans collect them and don't use them.)
