I am very new to Buck collectiong and I am having a hard time undertsanding what the dots look like on the tang when describing a 2 dot, three dot ect. I found this one someone is trying to sell me. Can anyone tell me the year and the value?

The seller says it is a '76 but I cannot find anything on this site that has the different tang designations. If there is such a thing can the mods post this as a sticky so newbies like me can easily ID buck 110's..

Thanks!

Hi Colubrid,

I have one just like that, and my grandfather does as well. Its a 1974-1980 vintage 110.

You can get basic information from here: http://www.buckknives.com/collectors_vintage.php

This will tell you how to ID 1974-current 110s. Past that, there are a lot of tricks and i'm still learning most of them.

Nice knife.

okay so its 1974 to 1980: one dot on either side of the model # (example: .110.)

What kind of value would one like this have and one of the same year but in good condition?

110 values on the big evil E(bay) can get crazy, but I've seen some .110. go for $30 to $50. Anyone else???

You are correct..."74-80". That is the one called a "two dot".

I got one last month for ~$50 including shipping. It's in GREAT shape. Not a ding or gouge on the bolsters. Just a very, very, faint rub from the inner workings of the sheath snap on the wood...have to actually look for it to see it.

I posted this in the thread of your other inquiry. GREAT pics from the collection of Mike Kerins:

.

As for a sticky...peeps have discussed that. The thought, of some, is that if there is too much info on dots and tang stamps in a sticky then that keeps people from joining in the fun by asking a question or two. I ended up here looking to know what the tang stamp on my 110 meant. So, it's a way for us to get "fresh meat" on the island.
