Help ID This Mushroom Please

Found this in the yard. I live in Central Oklahoma. Just need to know name and if it is safe for me and my dogs to be around it.

to me it looks like one called the hen of the woods which is edible. i would get a book to make sure. you can safely put a plastic bag around it and pick it up so you can show it to someone or dispose of it.

I would "guess" Hen Of the Woods but the ones Ive seen have grown at the base of trees.

I'm really hesitant to call it Hen o the woods cuz i believe it has gills and in one of your links it says DOES NOT HAVE GILLS...ill have to examine further...also, it isnt in/on/around a tree. Just pretty much in open yard area... i found a book that is available on rapidshare that ill post the link to if you would like as well

a buddy found one a few years ago and it was good. it was so big that he gave some to all his friends and still had plenty for himself.
