Help Identifying a unique Bowie style knife

I recently purchased this blade on fleabay, and am looking for any information about this blade that anyone can supply. There are no markings of any kind that I can find on this blade. The blade is approximately 11" long, and the overall length of the knife is approximately 16" long.

It is a very well made knife, even though the blade is in need of a polish job, and the brass definitely has a patina. The handle scales are well made, and the blade is evenly ground with what appears to be a convex/moran style grind. Almost appleseed-like. These photos are the photos that the seller originally took. I hope that someone can help with this identification.

There are no marks on the blade? It looks almost like one of the old Western bowies that someone re-shaped and ground into a recurve. The blades on those were wide enough that it could be done. The handle and guard shapes are also similar.

Western re-grind was my first thought but: Westerns had 3 rivets, the blades were all (I thing all) 9.5". And the guard seems very wide.

Check the guard. Wester often put their marks on the brass guard rather than the blade...that's where mine was. Check there and see.

I would agree is sure looks like a Western but I don't know...

I had looked at the Western bowies, and have yet to find one without the three rivets. If there are any markings on the knife my poor eyes can't find them. If the knife wasn't as well put together as it is, I'd chalk it up to being a cheap import. The blade is definitely carbon steel and has passed the file test. I've done hours of searching on google images for a similar blade profile, and haven't run into one. The knife doesn't bear any of the markers that I've seen on pre-aged reproductions. The pitting on the blade is NOT uniform, although it's so light that it's barely there. The rust has definitely happened at different times, as the discoloration is apparent. The patina on the brass guard looks genuine to me.

I really like the knife, but don't want to take it out and use it until I figure out what it is.

Thank you. I love the blade, as well. I picked it up for less than forty dollars shipped on ebay recently. No one had bid on it, and I put a bid in on a lark.
