Help: Leek or Delica decision....

Sebenza..

Sorry, noone said it yet. It used to be that you couldn't go more than 2 posts without the S-wordcoming up. OH, Delica..--Joe

the delica is the best under $45 lightweight folder in the market. comes with excellent steel, construction n great customer svc.

I own both the Delica and the Leek and here's what I think:

Blade steel: Delica--the VG-10 will certainly hold an edge longer than the 440A.

Lock: Leek--the frame-lock is pure genius.

Appearance: Leek--especially the Black Leek or the Rainbow Leek. The Delica just looks like cheap plastic.

Strength: Leek--I'm gonna say that the steel Leek beats the unlined FRN.

Opening means: This one's tough. The Delica's thumbhole is very quick and fool-proof, but the Leek's flipper and Speed-safe is also fool-proof and very cool to boot.

Clip: Leek--the clip is elegant and strong and will not loosen and turn like the Delica's.

Handle design: Leek--the Delica is just a little too short to get all fingers on without being crowded (at least in my hand).

Fit-and-finish: Leek--while both are very well made, my Leek has PERFECT fit-and-finish while my Delica is'nt polished on the inside of the backspring.

Having said all that, I'll add one more thing:
If the Leek was available with ATS-34, VG-10, ATS-55, 154CM or even 440C it would'nt even be a contest.

The Leek is a nearly perfect EDC.

Good luck,
Allen.

I have both. If I could only keep one it would always be a spyderco - especially in this choice:cool:

allen gave great logic, I just think the better blade material and the better lock and carefree handle on the delica, make this the choice. I have never found a Spyderco lacking in fit and finish. I have had problems with some of my kershaws with them having the blades centered correctly and rubbing the blade and handle together (4). There customer service was great - but no better than spydercos.

To me a knife is all about both blade material and quality - and a tough lock.

I just got a Delica yesterday and I like it a lot. I got the Lightweight version and its VERY light. I was wearing some shorts that probably weigh around 6 ounces, had the Delica clipped to the pocket and didnt even notice it was there. The blade is also very sharp.

I have an Endura (the big brother of the Delica) and a Leek and I carry both of them daily now... It's really hard to say for me.

Since allenC already made an excellent comparison I will just add that the Spyderco has a lot more belly than the Leek, but to me that's a matter of taste without being told what I have to cut.

I'm happy with both though you really can't go wrong here for a good every day knife. My suggestion is handle them if you can then decide.
