Help...Looking for a big blade tactical folder..

never held one, but the csar looks heavy duty, with some searching can be had around $100.

Good suggestions so far...any others? I love Emerson and Strider but they are out of my price range.

The Striders may be out of your price range but the Emersons can be had cheaper than you can buy the ZT0300 series comparing new to new.

Here is an interesting alternative: the Pohl Force Alpha 2. Really a beast. I have a ZT200 as well and the Pohl Force feels even more indestructible. It's edc'd by a German army unit in Afghanistan, in case you find that kind of street cred important. For me, it's just an incredible folder with several clever design details (mr. Pohl is a guru on tactical knife design) that cannot fail to bring a slightly crazy grin to your face.
It is in principle slightly over your budget, but you may want to check around.

A pass-around with plenty of pictures is going on HERE.

take a look at the emerson cqc 13, its the big bowie emerson. one of the most wicked looking knives if you can get the stonewashed finished version.

other good tacticals are:

spyderco military
spyderco chinook
al mar sere 2000

I REALLY liked my ZT350.. that said.. if I want a "tactical" folder, my combative edge M1 is the only "tactical" looking knife I still have... thick blade, framelock, slim ride in pocket, and good customer service... hard to beat..

The whole Zero Tolerance line will fit that bill very well. There are several for under $200 that you would be very pleased with.

Which Emerson would you suggest JDBoy?

I can only suggest from what I've had and that's a Commander and a CQC-11. If you like a little more blade length the 11 has it. It's long, sleek, and scary sharp! If you don't mind the blade length then the ZT 0300's are VERY hard to beat for the money. With that though I can say, other than the Emerson grind, I liked my Commander best of the three!

The Benchmade 741 also stacks up well. Axis lock rarely ever fails. Chances are the handles will break before the lock does.

I am really thinking between these four: Emerson CQ7, CQ8, Commander, and the Zero Tolerance 301.Opinions on these knives...

I love my zt 0300. I also have a dark ops stratofighter that i got as a gift. Its not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. It costs a little more then what you are asking but I think that its worth it, its a tank. Other then that you can try a Blackhawk Cqd mark 1 type E. Its about $67 but it has a glass breaker and a seatbelt cutter built in. And if you ever wanted to can buy a sheath they have for it, lock it up with the secondary lock and then carry it as a fixed blade. Just throwning it in there. But everyone else seems to have some superior choices

I like the thick frame lock of the 0300's but the Emerson's carry much better IMO. I also want a CQC-8 at some point as well. As far as the Commander goes, it cut better semi-dull than most knives will razor sharp. Must be the blade shape or something but it's a slicer for sure!!

So, the Pohl Force I recommended above is really not something for you? Have a look at the reactions of the passaround. It is mightily impressive, and something a bit off the beaten track.

A bada** folder! I'm on the the trail of a Combative Edge M1 and the new ZT 0551 so the purse is a little tight right now. I'd sure like to have one. I wonder how it stacks up to the Combative Edge M1 - haaven't ever read any comparisons. :)
