Help: Looking for a good beginner/cheap slingshot!

I've always loved slingshots, but have been stuck with inexpensive wrist braced models I can buy locally. Have gotten pretty good with them too.

I made a finger braced design a while back but get a lot of hand slap using trumark tapered bands. Would someone be willing to give me some dimensions of a good shooting, fairly standard sized and designed finger braced model so I could make another one? Yoke width, yoke depth, handle length (min) and yoke base width? That should be enough for me to make a decent one.

Here's my homemade one

I'm getting hand slap in the recoil cycle of the band. Haven't tried flat bands yet, just haven't justified ordering them or building a tying jig for making them up.

Hand slap happens when there is too much energy left in the bands. But some designs do render themselves to have it happen more than others. Try using heavier ammo and see if it still happens.

Or try shooting it like its a pfs. Kinda flip it out as the bands are retracting.

But above all that, get flatbands. (Or better tubes, look simpleshot at their 2040, 1745, 1842, etc.) Besides band life, you'll notice quite a difference in performance. Some people need a tying jig, but I've gotten by without one.

I've always had decent luck for band life with the trumark tapered, but wish I could find some either latex flat or good tube locally.

I've tried the flip but just can't stay accurate with it.

Not sure how you would use flat band on the Dankung style attachments like I used on that sling.

Here is a dankung luck ring I have setup with flats for 1/4" steel.

If you have a walmart, the Gold's gym green exercise bands are decent. May I ask why you dont want to order? Theraband gold is pretty cheap on the bay. I got 5 foot for $7.50 shipped not too long ago.

Because the wife will find out! Lol, I've been spending so much on gun parts lately, she wouldn't like it if another box showed up.

Maybe I will, I have enough old bands still around for salvaging pouches, maybe even use tyvek for some too. And, honestly, don't have a clue what or how I would need to cut them. I don't have a rotary cutter, but do have a mat.

Thanks for the pic, now I know how to tie it.

I really would like to get one or two slings I made set up well for hunting and target shooting.

Haha, just tell her its for your new exercise band workout:D
You can get a rotary cutter fairly easily at a local craft store. The band size will be relative to ammo size. Theres different forums that have plenty of threads on proven setups. I use 5/8" straight cut for 3/8" steel, and either a 7/8" or 1" straight cut for .454 lead/.5 steel
