HELP: Looking to buy a pocket knife under $60

Those ton knives aren't flippers though.

I picked this set up at Walmart for $20 but I'm going to return it. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Kershaw-Limited-Edition-3-Piece-Knife-Set/33455736

It's the Swerve and the Freefall.

Both fold out poorly. The bearing the blade is mounted on is very gummy. The Liner-Lock has a very poor design. It's flush with the opposite side of the handle, and no little grippy bumps on it to Slide it over with your thumb. I have to use to hands to close it. There is a secondary partial locking bump on the liner-lock too that seems to just be in the way.

Yeah those are cheap-o versions exclusive to Wal-mart. The "real" Swerve and Freefall are much better. I bought them to check them out. Suppose it's worth the money maybe. Was gonna try and take them apart and try and smooth things out with some sandpaper but the dang screws were so tight I ruined a craftsman driver.

I only need about a 2.5" Blade and a 4" handle would be perfect. I prefer a short fat blade because of the stability.

How about a Boker Plus Trance? 2.75" blade, 0.125" thick, 3.75" handle, flipper, framelock, Chad Los Banos design -- sort of a big brother to the SubCom models.

Thanks for pointing out the "Boker Plus Trance". Have not seen it before and might get one myself ;)
Does it flip well?

Mine does not flip well because I keep the pivot tight. It flips enough for my thumb to slide over and hit the thumbstud easily though. It is a great little knife, and coincidentally, s.c. just had the droppoint version for sale and I sent for it.

CLB's knives are definitely user-oriented. I have the SubCom, Trance, and M-Type. The M-Type is so good, I usually switch it off with my Spydie Military.

You might be able to find a RAM for under $60. It's roughly the same length as the Skyline, but it has a wider handle. If you look at the 9th picture down in this post, there's a pic of the Skyline next to the RAM.

Yeah, Esav! Thank you as well for pointing this knife out to us. I'm pretty intrigued.

the kershaw chill is always a good choice also if you are looking for something other than kershaw I would always recommend a victorinox secretary.

I tested a few knives out today, and most don't open smoothly. The Skyline opened smooth right out of the box.

I came across this today, cool idea for a sheath if the knife is small enough

@Esav Benyamin,

Does the Boker Plus Trance open smooth and quick like the skyline?

How about a CRKT Ripple 2?
- Design by Ken Onion
- (Assisted) Flipper
- 2.7 inch blade
- 3.75 inch handle

Just ordered one myself ;)

I agree. Columbia River makes several good quality knives in your price range. The Nirk series, Carson M 21, Ignitor, Pazoda all match.
If your heart is set on small maybe the Shrimp model?

Kershaw Knockout = too big
Kershaw Shuffle = bad, sticky poor hinges, no 1 hand opening

I actually found my Kershaw Skyline, so something too close to it won't be necessary.

Considering these, but they have no flipper. 1 hand opening is key:

Spyderco Chicago ( no flipper )

Boker Plus Nano ( no flipper )

any more suggestions?

next knife must be light weight in the pocket

I made this from an old butcher knife I found my basement. Leather shoelace temporary handle.
Blade is 3.25" long, 2" wide.

I just got a utilitac II for $20. Really smooth and easy to use with one hand. A little heavy but can't beat this knife for the price.
