I've got a major problem. I got a friend to send a knife for me since he was going to the PO anyway. I told him to insure it, but he apparently didn't hear me, so it just went regular postage. I might be able to find the receipt if that is necessary.

Now, it's been two weeks and it hasn't gotten to Texas. The knife is worth a few hundred dollars and the buyer is understandably pissed off. Is there anything I can do?

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Hope and pray.

With no insurance, you've got nothing.

Give it a couple more weeks, but if the knife doesn't arrive by then... well, you're just gonna have to refund the buyer's money.

Sorry.

Regular postage as in 1st class, or Priority Mail? I've had something take 29 days to get from Virginia to Hawaii via Priority. I've had stuff take a long time, but I've never had anything get lost. They won't even try to do anything until it's been missing for at least 30 days anyway so you'll probably just have to sit back and wait. Hopefully it'll get there.

Don't press the panic button so fast. I once had to wait for about three and a half months and several trips to the local post office before the "lost" parcel showed up.

From now on, make regular enquiries at the post office, until they get sick and tired of you (and then they will start to do something).

You could ask your local PO for assistance, but I'm afraid that wouldn't help at all unless it was Priority or registered or insured.

In my experience, of the three times I've been shafted on transactions (ebay, here, etc.) someone at the PO had a hand in it somewhere along the line--boxes showing up empty, or in one case resealed with a bag of candy inside, freaky stuff right after the anthrax attacks in NJ POs. As a consequence if the seller has to use USPS I am willing to spend the extra $$$ for insurance and confirmation. Priority, in and of itself, doesn't make much difference, from what I've seen.

Delivery has been a little slow, in any case, and we'll keep the fingers crossed for your package. Good luck!
