I've got diamond strops and I use this simple one I made out of two 5 gallon stir sticks. Green chromium oxide. Works for me.

Had 2 pieces of vegetable tanned leather, glued them together, saw this method used on an old strop on a post that someone showed their grandfathers old strop. Cased one side, the smooth side, i will use this bare, the other side is a rougher texture, but still fairly smooth. Will apply compound to this side.

posted some really good information about compounds and casing the leather for bare leather. Had these 2 pieces of leather left over from another project and just wanted to do an experiment.
