Thanks for the suggestion TOM1960. I just went to my local outdoors store and they had some Cold Steel knives. The Kraton handles are extremely comfortable and fit my hand well. I looked at the SRK, the master hunter, and the pendleton hunter and was impressed by them all. I don't know that the SRK is the style of blade that I want (clip point) but I really liked the pendleton hunter. The price was right too. I could get the knife and still have money left in my budget for a hatchet or a new pack.
I also got a chance to look at the LMF 2 and was duly unimpressed. The sheath is really cool, but also really bulky and the serrations would bother me. Heavy knife too. They also had a SOG seal pup elite and it's not for me either. I wish that I had someplace nearby to look at some becker or ESEE knives. Oh well.
I'm gonna think on it for a bit exactly which knife I want to get, but for now I think that I will go with a small knife like the BK14 or the pendleton and a hatchet. I will still be very happy to hear any more suggestions ...
