Whats up guys, this is my first post.

I just lost my griptilian and i am in need of a new edc knife, i really loved the griptilian but i feel like branching out a bit, and trying out some other knives. Also, i want to spend a little less than the griptilian (no more than 55) and still get a solid edc/ "tactical" folder... (by tactical i mean something thats really sturdy like the criptilian, and doesnt have a really flimsy blade.

Can you help me choose between these two:
1. Spyderco centafonte III
2. Benchmade mini ambush

Or if you want, put in a suggestion. There are three requirements however, first it must be able to be pocket carried tip down, second it must be around 3-3.5 inches, and third it must not be serrated.

Thanks, and merry christmas.

Oh, and you guys think those 2 are good choices? Ive been doing lots of research but theres just so much stuff out there its hard to narrow it down.

I had an EDC mini-grip for a looong time and started out on a search for the "perfect" EDC. I bought pretty much every model BM Axis lock that I could afford and some Spydercos. I ended up selling them all and buying another Mini-Grip again and now carrying it again.

IMO, the Mini-grip is worth it's weight in gold.

i dont like the mini ambush much, a benchamde vex is a much better knife.

the sog flash 2 is good, but it doesnt have liners, handle is pure frn, but its still good and low priced.

i dont like the centofante 3 much either for some reason its not as easy to open as a spyderco delica or endura.

Paramilitary would be my choice for you.

Great lock, tip down, excellent blade shape.

Note: You can't change the clip position however. Right hand TU only.

I've EDCed many many folders of various designs and manufacturers over the years and have settled for the past two years on a full size wave modified Griptilian. For EDC I have not found a more suitable blade...I would simply replace the Grip you already had...maybe upgrade the steel or change the handle color if your just looking for a change.

Centofante III between the 2 choices.
Someone mentioned the Paramilitary. OP stated a pricepoint of less than $55.
The Para is double that. ;)

Yeah.... I just noticed the price cap. :foot:

Well, you're getting a lot more knife for that price. :)

Grap a Spyderco. It won't let you down.

I dont have experience with either of the two knives you mentioned so my advice is either get another minigrip, the spyderco or the spyderco delica.

You could also check out a Delica 4. They come in at about $40.00.

It's more or less Spyderco's version of the Griptilian, but thinner and slightly lighter. It's also put together completely with screws, and not pinned like the Centofante. I really like the looks of the Centofante, but I don't like the all pinned construction.

Also, the Mini Ambush is in a lower class than the Griptilian, but I'd rate the Delica as equal to the Griptilian. I don't think you'd be as happy with the rolling lock as an Axis lock.

Looks like you're moving down the knife ladder in your choices, but of the two you posted, I'd go Spyderco Centofante III despite the fact I am not a fan of lockbacks.

My suggestion would be to either get another Griptillian of move up the axis-lock line to one of the other models with the lock.

The delica is a good knife , but its way too thick for a modern edc. The cent III is a much better slicer, and still remains stout enough for harder work. This my be the perfect knife.

What Lobo said. By all means, try out a Spyderco Cent III or IV, however don't be surprised when you miss the Grip.

Both the handle and the blade on the Delica are thinner than the Mini Griptilian.

But yes, that's definitely another thing to consider--depends if the OP wants to try out a thinner blade on an EDC!
