They are both good brands, and can be addictive. I lean toward the Spyderco brand, but have both. The Spyderco's tend to end up in my pocket more than 90% of the time if that helps. Welcome to the forums, and enjoy!
The Centofante III is an excellent knife with great fit and finish.
The Ambush (in my opinion) is junk. I agree with the folks that say the Vex is a better knife even if it's made in China. The Ambush is made in Taiwan.
The Centofante III is made in Seki-City Japan and has perfect F&F and lockup. Probably THE best slicer around.
If you want to stay around $50 you could get a Benchmade Mini-Griptilian, or a Spyderco Delica 4.
