Help me choose a new field knife

I have to say that I would go with a Becker. I know that wasn't one of your choices, but that's my only choice for a hard user field knife. Not saying others aren't as good or better, because that depends on the end user. But for me it has to me a BK-? insert the number you wish based on your size requirements. I happen to choose the BK-7.

Ummm...

Of your two choices I would go CABS as well. Although I really like my axtive duty and can't wait to try out the AMS overrun.

Out of the two: Pork Shank, but the Active Duty and the RatManDu are greath knives too:thumbup:

:thumbup:Luv me CABS!:D

Here are some comp pics with the shank, the bottom CABS has a custom black linen micarta handle, very comfy:) I prefer the feel of the CABS in hand, mostly because of how the tang is more rounded on the top. The Shank has a little longer blade, a large choil, and the spine is not rounded. I guess it depends on what you want to use it for, or what you prefer:confused:

Yeah I saw that after I posted, couldn't figure out how to delete the post from my phone. Lol. I will check them out. I love Beckers but before them I love knives. I am always hunting a reason for a new knife.

Sorry about the post, my phone just showed it under new posts, I thought it was in the Becker forum and didn't show me any different till I already posted it. If it counts for anything, I am really liking these blades that have been posted. I see one in my future. If no other reason just as a token of my apologies. Lol. I'm still navigating through here ( phone isn't so great for that). Thanks for not smoking me too bad. Lol.

Nothing wrong with Beckers for the price. I have several and they work great, though this crowd is harder to please LMAO

But to answer the OPs question, this one wins for me in the under 4" category

This one wins 4-6" for me

This one wins from 6-8"

And any bigger than that Id pick Jodys ASHBM.

No hate for Beckers. Lots of guys get it done in the woods with them all year round. I don't like the handles much, so they're not really for me.

My wife loves Ethan's cookbook, though.

I say stop by McDonald's and grab a plastic spork and knife - - - now that's an unstoppable combo. However, my secondary suggestion would definitely be the CABS!

Mate, one taste of INFI is all it takes and you'll be the path to true enlightenment. :)

Go on, just a little a little one. It can't hurt :)

..... not that type of people here mate, most relaised that you had clicked into this one from the homepage. Becker make a great knife, I myself have never warmed to them though, as do many other makers, as you would imagine this room is going to be a little "One Eyed" ... you can go by a MOAB as penance now.... ;)

I have used the Bad, cabs, ash1 cg, gw, and sarq. BAD WAS A great edc, so was the gw. The cabs has a longer, more comfy handle. About the only thing I would add is a little more beef to the handle.

The only problem I have the with BAD/AD is that when I use my normal grip and put my thumb on the spine for detail work, the choil is right under my thumb... I like to have cutting edge there for controlled detail work. It's not exactly a fault of the knife, it just doesn't work with my grip.

Would the Pork Shank or the CABS be a better choice for a field/hunting knife? I EDC a 3.5 folder so I am looking for something slight larger in a straight blade.
...
Of the 2 you mentioned, I would choose the CABS. If a 5" blade is OK for your needs, a SYKCO 511 is a nice choice and is currently available; the handle is great, and the choil is not too large. Another good choice, though hard to find these days, is a BA III (3rd generation Badger Attack).
