Alrighty everyone: the time has come for yet another purchase and I'm torn between three knives, all of which share very little in common. Any shove in one direction or another is greatly appreciated!

1) Spyderco Roadie
2) Esee candiru (would probably spring for a leather pocket sheath as well)
3) Great Eastern Cutlery #9, Esquire with ebony wood handle.

Thoughts? Opinions? I need your help!

Thanks in advance.

If it is legal to pocket carry a fixed blade in your area, I would get the Candiru. However, take a look at the Bark River Adventurer and the Little Creek. Also, take a good look at the inexpensive, but superb Kershaw Skinning knife and mini skinner before you get the Candiru.

GEC makes nice knives if you dont mind the sunken scale pins (not on all..but many). I have owned a couple and it brought out my OCD and I had to get rid of them. Good knives otherwise.

Depends on the reasoning. Each are better suited for different task. You could always get the Esee and 09 used. They pop up on the exchange every now and then. Together would be a great combo.

Of the 4 choices, I'd vote GEC #9 by a wide margin. Of the different varieties of the #9, I like the Ebony the best too.

I love Spyderco (my favorite Co) but not a fan of the Roadie design (personal opinion of course).
ESEE...meh.. I have a big hand, small fixed blades don't work well for me. This definitely stands out as a fixed blade vs folders.
The Boker. Design wise, the scales aren't rounded over which seems odd to me. Seems a little "clunky" to me and maybe not the most comfortable in hand. Hard to say for sure w/o handling it of course.

The GEC would be my first choice as you could carry it in more places and still have a functional tool. The Boker would be my next choice. The Candiru is too small for me, and the Roadie is an abomination. I understand why Spyderco came up with it, but I'd never own one.

Thanks for the input everyone! I am feeling drawn toward the boker...but I'm a little hesitant as I've never owned one. I love VG10, but I've heard some things about spotty QC, blade play, etc with Boker. Any truth to that?

I do, also, really want that GEC.

Funny that everyone would push me toward the two most expensive options...

I have read here about Boker issues but haven't had any myself, but for the most part I've read they were resolved well. As to the last...buy a good tool and only cry once.
