Help Me Choose First Spyderco Folder

If you use your blade alot or need to use it with onehanded leftie or righty or just like a fun blade to play with you need the back lock on the Endura. You can one hand close them just as easily left or right (not quite so on a PM) and never have a finger under the blade (like a liner lock). Plus the back lock is the only one that positively sucks the blade closed. No other lock is more versatile, safer, faster, easier. The axis lock is OK at best and pretty bad otherwise compared to the back lock.

I'm a bad boy with my Endura... I always keep my finger at the top of the handle, and when I hit the back lock, I let the ricasso fall on my finger, then adjust grip to close one handed.

I pinch the knife with my middle finger and thumb and unlock it with the index. done in about 1/10th the time. I never understood closing an Endura any other way.

Pm2 or caly 3.5. Both of those are lighter and carry more comfortable than the GB. I favor the pm2, but don't overlook the caly 3.5...maybe the most comfortable spyderco I've handled.

Get the PM2. It would be a perfect all around knife for your first spydie. If you dont like it, you could sell it or trade it in minutes.

After much more consideration I decided to go ahead and get a PM2 over the Gayle Bradley for reasons you guys have pointed out, and also because it's closest to what I outlined in my OP. It's thinner and lighter that the GB, the compression lock seems stronger than the liner lock (not that I think the liner lock failing would ever be an issue), and it's made here in the US. The trouble is I can't find the one I want in stock. I want the black handles, satin finish blade, and plain edge. I was going to wait until after the holidays anyway so I guess I'll live until I can find one. In the meantime I might just have to order an Endura 4 to satisfy my spydie craving. :)

Well I couldn't take it. Since I finished my Christmas shopping yesterday I decided to reward myself and ordered an Endura 4 FFG with grey scales. :D Coming in well under my proposed budget, it will give me my Spyderco fix and hold me over until I can find the PM2 I really want. I looked pretty hard at the Manix 2 but went with the Endura. Somehow I get the feeling I'll end up owning a few more Spydercos before it's all said and done.

Thanks again to everyone for all the suggestions, If it wasn't for y'all I'd still be adrift in the vast sea of the Spyderco catalog! I'll be sure to post pics when the Endura shows up. I paid for two day shipping to take some of the sting out of waiting.

After buying and selling a lot of Spyderco grails, my Endura 4 FFG is still my out-of-office favorite. Great choice!

ETA: Although I've even been carrying it to work on Fridays recently.

I was messing around yesterday and Came across a PM2 "black out" model and couldn't resist even though I was supposed to wait until after Christmas. I'll get over it somehow. The Endura that was out for delivery yesterday still hasn't shown up. I guess FedEx is swamped with holiday shipping. Must. Have. Patience...

Oh, I also ordered a purple Ladybug for good measure. I think I've got the fever.

Just got the Endura! It absolutely fits the bill. It's roughly the same size as my Barrage but thinner and much lighter.

I love the Endura but I have a feeling the PM2 will really steel my heart.

Well, my Para Military 2 came in the mail last night and I haven't been able to wipe the smile off my face since I opened it. I had stated earlier that I wanted the satin finish blade but went with the black coated blade because 1, I found it in stock first, and 2, I already had the Endura with a satin finish blade. The Endura is an awesome knife but the PM2 is more like a work of art IMHO. Beautiful knife and I love the compression lock so far. Both the Endura and PM 2 are about .2" thinner than the Benchmade Barrage I have and both are considerably lighter as well.

As others have stated, I'm partial to the Endura with VG-10 and if you want to spend more the Manix XL with S30v. My two favorite Spyderco's.
