Help me choose my first Benchmade

Can't go wrong with a bone collector :) large, great blade shape, D2, awesome green/black g10, axis lock, spyderhole, and a sturdy well made blade

I looked over the 710 and did not really get the right vibe from it that I wanted.

However, the Contego and the Rift, I'm liking what I'm seeing.

But I am, in my typical lady mood (or is it knife addict mood?), debating between buying a Benchmade or using up the rest of my paypal money on a sebenza? Urgh! :o :p

Do it!

I just dumped my PayPal funds on a Damascus lionsteel SR-1.

I don't have the Contego, but it will probably be next on my list. The Rift is still my favorite between it and the Adamas. I understand your debating. I've never owned, or had a desire to purchase, a Sebenza so it's an easy choice for me. If you've got hard use knives already, why not give the Rift a shot? Still a tough knife.

That's a good way of looking at it Terry. The only hard use folder I have is the ZT 0550 and a ZT 0200 that I have in a tool box as a "oh hell, I need a knife!" back up.

I've heard stories on how long lasting the Sebenza is and how owners would hold onto it for years (such as that story in other thread about a guy losing his Sebenza knife and getting it back). That kind of things appeals to me (I grew up that way, using tools that has been around for a good 20+ years).

So yep, it's a hard choice. :p

Keep us updated! I'm anxious to see what you choose. If you do choose the Sebenza you gotta post pics and a review. Glad I could be of some help.

I have many Benchmades, but my favorite is the Osborne 943 in Titanium. The Aluminum model will fall in your price range.

I'm going to be different and instead of suggesting a Benchmade to replace or rival your 550, maybe you should get one to complement it. My first Benchmade (and still is the only one so far) was the 581 Barrage. I picked it because out of all my larger knives, it's one that I can carry when I'm dressed up and it won't look out of place. M390 steel, G10 w/ aluminum bolsters, assisted axis lock (you can also de-assist it) for less than $150.

When I dress up, the knife goes either my purse or my outdoor work jeans. So why the Barrage? Is it because of the "gentlemanly" look of the handle?
Personally, I dont really worry about what People think since it's either in my purse where 99% of the people wont know it's there (that is, when I do "dress" up outside of my jeans) or I'm out in the field working where pretty much any outdoor tools is the norm.

Well, you do have to take it out to use it. When I'm in a suit, I like to carry something sleek and dressy. I do have a black 550 that would be out of place compared to the 581 in certain situations.
