I currently do not own any Spydies. I am thinking about the FFG Delica 4 because of the FFG and limited production BUT I like the look of the Persistance and the Cat better. I want something under a 3" blade for EDC tasks.

So out of the following which should I get:

Cat
Chicago
Delica 4 FFG
Persistance

Is the VG10 that much better than the 8Cr13MoV or the CPMS30V?

Delica 4. Built like a mini tank and a spyderco class that has been heavily refined over time.

I'd really like to get the new FFG Delicas :p

I dont think you can go wrong with a delica 4, especially when its a FFG.

Also, I'm a huge fan of the Sage 1 and 2 and the Cat and Chicago are done in similar styles with the CF scales, liner lock, and wire clip.

Lastly, I think 8Cr13mov is decent and a lot of my beater blades are made from it. However, I've come to love VG-10 which I think is better and then even more so for S30V which I think is a little better than VG-10 even. I'm happy with any blade made from VG-10 or S30V, but I typically dont get many 8cr13mov knives anymore.

I know I'm new here, but I hope that helped.

Looking at the cat, it really seems to be a nice intro for a spyderco. The wire clips are really nice, and my favorite spydercos always end up being the ones that have the nice jimping on both the thumb ramp and the choil. It makes for such a comfortable knife to use. Also having s30v and CF scales at that price point is really attractive

I dont think you can go wrong with your choices although the Persistence isnt necessarily high up on my list. I know the tenacious won something in 2009 and I actually own one, but I prefer the other choices over the Persistence by far. The Ergos on the Sage are great and the Cat and Chicago seem very similar.

I love the delica, FFG or not and i think i prefer it to the other knives you listed. but if you can squeze your budget i'd go for a sage.

IMO -
I prefer S30V (USA steel) over VG-10 (Japan) - 8Cr13MoV (Chinese). They are both premium steels and either choice would be a winner. If I were you, I would play it safe and get a Delica. They are a terrific little knife with some of the best ergonomics around. It fits your hand like a glove. At around $55, you cannot go wrong.

The Tenacious/Presistance are great starter Spyderco's and for the price 8Cr13MoV is a fantastic steel, I have used my Tenacious for a couple months lightly and i've only had to touch it up twice.

I was a late comer to the delica/endura line--and I'm sorry about it. I find myself reaching for my delicas as often as any other knife I own. For any entry level knife, I'd get the delica. Unless money is a big issue, I wouldn't start with the chinese products. If money IS a big issue, I'd just as soon go with a Byrd. I've handled a couple, and they seem pretty good.

The FFG in the colors are a limited sprint. They may or may not switch the production model to FFG.

Another 3" you might want to consider is the Centofante 3.

I feel likethe FFG delicas will do well enough to justify a production line, but I would pick one up just in case :p

Again though, its hard not to gush over the Sage 2. I just like having a big chunk of Ti in my hand.

Try the Delica. It will give you a real good idea about Spyderco. It'a a classic Spyderco knife to have. Also Vg-10 is a great steel for every day use.. gives you hair poppin edge and resharpens in a minute ..

just to encourage you a bit :D

Second from the list would be Persistance for me. Great stuff for the money you pay.

Nice knives. Is that the new ffg delica? I think I might go with the new ffg delica. I just can't decide on the color.

My gut says blue since that is my fav color but it may look too much like a toy. Brown seems to be most popular so I was thinking that maybe it looks nicer than in the pics. Gray seems like a safe bet also.

id say get one of the new Full flat ground delicas while they are still available. you wont regret it trust me

If I could only have one on your list it would be the Delica. I have one with a FFG and love it. The FRN is grippy as hell and it's a very comfy, useful knife. While you are getting CF and S30V on the Cat/Chicago, you are giving up more in usefulness. The CF on these are nothing to write home about. I have the Sage 1 and it's a world apart at only $30 more!

No. All three are regular Delica 4; Stainless-plain, BlackFRN-plain and Foliage Green-combo edge.

I might also get my hands on new FFG version, probably will also have to decide between brown or blue FRN.

I watched I think spydieguys youtube video and he did mention that the foliage green is similar to the gray but just a tad greener.

Delica is a classic, hard to go wrong there. The 1st Spyderco I purchased and own to this day is a wally world Native- quite possibly the best knife value of all time. Has some of the best ergos of any knife I own.
