I have one of the Gin 2 Enduras SE (Plastic pocket clip) that I'm retiring. I would like a full size PE model. If I was able able to find a C60 Ayoob, this discussion would never have been posted. I am considering the Chinook, Military, Manix, and the Endura-wave.

My wife told me to get whichever model I want for Father's Day. I will be using the knife as my large folder meaning everything from Utility to SD. I have had two liner locks fail me before but materials have changed since then. I appeal to your experience. All recommendations are welcome. Please give me your thoughts. Yes, I wish the Superhawk or Citadel were already out.
Thanks

i know its not one you mentioned, but im a big advocate of the d'allara drop point, especially since you can find it for like only $60 bux or so. the dallara drop point is wicked, and it can be flicked out effortlessly. you could get that, plus the endura wave for the price of a military, manix or chinook.

The Manix is huge. The mini Manix is a lot of knife, and a better size for me personally. I'm not crazy about choils, but other than that it's pretty much perfect. It's an awesome cutter and the ergos are extremely good.

I recommend the waved Endura, it's just so darn nifty :D

Honestly though, all of those are tough knives, and I doubt any of them would let you down. The wave feature is just great to have when you only have one hand free or you need your knife opened in hurry.

Like longbeachguy said, the full-size Manix is a beast so don't let the photos fool you, it is a monster.

Well, if you've owned an old school Endura, you'll love the new waved endura. I just got one myself, and the fit and finish is excelent, way better than my older gen 3 delica. I was extremley impressed with the "6 mllion dollar man" make-over for the endura, with the stronger, steel reinforced handle, improved bidirectional textured grip, improved color scheme, and, of course, the wave. The wave feature is not only a damn fine bottle opener, its also a lot of fun, and has definitle added something new to my routine. Its also very reasuring.

On the other hand, you might just be bored with the endura entirley, and want something radically different. I doubt you would really want the manix, its definitley a gigantosour in real life. The Military is like a slightly larger, more ruged endura, so thats a possibility. I don't realy know anything about the Chinook or the d'allara, but their clearly very different from the endura, if thats what your looking for.

Either way, a new toy is a new toy, and I'm sure you'll be pleased with whatever you choose.

+1 more for the waved endura.

On top of the usual spydie quality, you cant beat pulling it outta the pocket and hearing that blade snap open- gives you something to do while you're waiting for the elevator....

Appears it would also be a long-term EDC'er for you as well and as mentioned before: very easy to clean.

And you can't underestimate the usefulness of the "bottle cap" opener- I've field tested it extensively and am happy to say it works fine...

Thanks for the responses so far. I will be making my decision soon and I will report back to you. Thanks for all your help and pictures (allenC). I'm not sure if the pictures makes it easier. Actually, it makes you want both knives, but it's good for side to side comparison. I decided to come to the forum because of the expertise/knowledge I've read in some of the other threads on this forum.

I've never had a problem carrying a larger knife. I'm 6'3 1/2" and weigh 205-220 lbs, so I can conceal alot on my person. As I filter through the recommendations, I will probably have to order on line. I don't have a great deal of experience with that. I ordered some motorcycle stuff on ebay that I had to throw away. In other forums they mention "NGK". I have no idea what it stands for. If someone could email me a reputable place after posting their knife recommend, it would be appreciated.

Again thanks for the insight, I look forward to checking back tonight for some more.

I bought a Waved Endura to start with, then downsized to a Delica and the wave (when closed) is great for use as a band breaker on those thin plastic tags that are on clothing. You just have to remember to hold the blade closed:D

NGk is new graham knifes. you can find them online. They seem to have a great rep here. Can't comment on it first person, since I've nevr bought anything from them.

My take on the four.

Endura - You already have it, so you know the pros and cons.

Mili - Huge knife, light, questionable (to me) lock, cleans easily.

Manix - Huge, but pretty heavy, same old lockback as the endura. (I carry a mini manix everyday, so weight not really an issue depending on where you go and work)

Chinook - Another big boy with same lock as the manix with a different blade design.

I carry the M.Manix in the chocolate factory, one of my cousin who's an armed guard for Brinx uses the wave E4, another cousin who's a computer geek, EDC a paramili with dress pants and shirt to work. In the end, they are all good.

That would be New Graham Knives in Bluefied, VA. They are wonderful to deal with. I've bought from them several times and never been disappointed. They will take your order over the Internet or you can call and talk to some pretty knowledgable people in person about the knife you want.

The BG-42 Military is impressive, you could give it a try. It is a linerlock, but a Spyderco linerlock ;) It shouldn't fail.
If you are still fond of the Endura, they I highly recommend their newest model, in ZDP. ZDP is a treat to steel snobs, I think you may like it as well ;)

Thanks for the direction. I called NGK and they were great but tried to talk me into an AL MAR Sere. After reading the forum, my wife said to buy all three (Endura, Manix, and Chinook):D . She said; "buy one, when you get bored order the other"  .
I put in an order for the Manix. The sales rep (1sks) recommended the full-size as a better fit for me. I'll try it out.
Again, thank you for the advice.

you are going to miss out on the badass dallara.

the dallara is almost the same size as the manix, but weighs a bit less, costs WAY less, and has a vg10 blade instead of cpm30. the dallara can be opened faster, and the ball lock is solid and unique.

My wife says she wants one (D'allara). She thinks the ball lock is the best. She has been carrying the Allen Elishawitz (SP?) for about 10 years and it's time to upgrade her locking mechanism.

Thanks for the direction. I called NGK and they were great but tried to talk me into an AL MAR Sere.

Given that the newer Seres have big cutouts in the locking liner itself, the Military is a much more solid choice. Glad you were dissuaded from a Sere.

I think the point here is, you'll be happy with whichever model you get. And if you get more, all the better. Each of those mentioned have some individual virtues and deficiencies. My personal favorite of those named is the Chinook 2. Behind that, it'd be the Military.

I own both the manix and cf/bg42 military.
I carry the military daily only because I simply don't need a workhorse of a knife (self def. mainly) or I would carry the manix. A huge, solid knife with a great feel in a large hand. Super solid lock.
A great workhorse knife and I'm sure you won't regret your purchase but I love my Military.
Its My favorite!

He has a point. 1sks is out of the manix. Maybe I should reconsider:confused: Any thoughts??
