S stonemedusa6264 Because I plan to have this sharpener for decades and will eventually get more knives. Plus my dad is really into knives and has like 5+ quality knives that I can help him sharpen. He has a crappy Lansky sharpener that he always complains about. He uses them for work so they are pretty banged up.

jeronimo jeronimo That's a good idea lol. I actually have a fake benchmade bugout and a Kershaw leek I will practice on those first before attempting to sharpen my $300+ EDC.

You know people sharpen knives? Like they have all the stones. You send them a knife and money. You get a sharp knife back. Why buy a good sharpening kit to try and mirror polish one knife with 3 stones? Buy another knife and send them out. Sorry but I have a hard time seeing any logic in your goal. Its your money spend it how you want but you're gonna start mirror polishing knives on s90 with 3 stones? Why am I the first one to be like what is even going on here?
That's a solid argument.

Maybe his end goal is to learn how to use a guided sharpener, proficiently, so that he can sharpen his own knives.
Maybe he buys all that gear, loses interest, or gets frustrated, and ends up selling it 6 months down the road.
Hard to say. He's gotta start somewhere.
I've never thrown a brand new knife of any brand on my sharpener and not had to reprofile the grind some. I'm interested in how this works but I'm pessimistic...
This is a true statement, and also part of why he should get a lower grit stone in his lineup.

jeronimo jeronimo so just to confirm, the F240 is still not low enough to reprofile?
If not, can you recommend a cheaper reprofiling diamond stone that will fit in the hapstone

…Since you said you're new to all of this, you should gather whatever small or medium sized kitchen knives/beater knives you have available,
and practice, practice, practice, on those first.

Get a good feel for how the sharpener and stones work.
Get a good feel for how to match the existing bevel angles on the practice knives, before you move on to your expensive ones.
This, this, and then some more of this.

Why not get a venev 3 stone double sided kit and have a decent starting point? I'm confused by this whole thread. not trying to be a dick. I just don't get the logic behind I want a mirror with 3 stones. You won't get a perfect mirror with that. Even if you bad 6 grits. No perfect mirror finish

Okay got it. I don't want to go for the really cheap ones. After searching on the hapstone site I've landed on these:
#1. HAPSTONE START CBN - Grit 100
#2. HAPSTONE START DIAMOND - Grit 100
#3. JENDE DIAMOND PLATE - Grit 120
Which one would you get out of these? Just to reiterate, the stones I will have will be:
F240, F400, and F1200 + Gunny Juice 1 micron.

This will be my last question about which stones to buy jeronimo jeronimo and 777 Edge 777 Edge 😁
You guys have helped a lot, thank you. I completely changed up what I was originally going to buy haha.

EDIT: S stonemedusa6264 I think you're confused because you didnt read Jeronimo's responses throughout the thread. I was originally going to get those doubled sided ones but they dont sit well in the hapstone. Id rather get stones where I won't have to worry about them getting misaligned or fall out. One less thing to worry about.

I would get #2. That's the same as the second one I recommended in Post #24 above.

Give your new sharpener some time, and step away from it for a few minutes, if you get frustrated, and think about what it is that's giving you issues.
There are a lot of good people on here that will help you out, if you show the willingness to learn.
Unfortunately, there are some douchebags on here as well. Keep your head up.

After all of this, I forgot to say "WELCOME TO BLADEFORUMS Murkr Murkr !!"

Nah I read everything. I don't think you understand I'm trying to help you. It just doesn't make sense bud? You need to make a new plan. I want a knife sharp with 3 stones? You can do that! I want a mirror in 3 stones? I think you need to rethink what you want...

You'll have a lot of time to reflect on how you voulda had two bugouts n just send them out. You'll either buy several more stones or sell your kit.

If you read everything why mention getting the doubled sided stones?
Also, I'll have 4 stones and a strop with gunny juice 1 micron. We'll see how it goes...

I'm sure I'll be happy with "mirror-like" edge.
Look at post #14 in this thread. He finished with F400 and it looks great. I'd be happy if it came anywhere close to that after practice.

Hey OP I was wondering how it was going with your sharpener and stones? I am in the same place you were when you were asking your questions. Are you happy with your choices? would you choose any different routes if you were to buy all over again? thanks!
