Help me choose

Thanks for the advice gentlemen, I ended up with third choice, a Buck Squire. I was at Bass Pro and I got to handle one and fell in love, and it was on sale for cheaper than the gent and the TL.
Those two are still at the very top of my short list, but at least I can put that hard decision on the back burner :D

Got both, both are Barehead (the only way to go) both are carbon. Neither are at all similar....you might as well ask should I own a Cat or a Dog ;):D

Judging by your remarks about larger multi blades being left in the drawer then it's clear you should go for the Swayback  Yes it's small but CASE unlike GEC gets small knives right, it's not toy-like or annoying and it does not feel skimpy or wispy in the hand precisely because it is for draw cuts in particular. Get a Chestnut Bone one and you'll have a pocket friend for life.

Now the Tribal Lock. I'm very keen on lockbacks and never subscribed to the idea that locks are improper or not needed, they are :D Build quality on mine is high, BUT it's a thin scaled knife that to me feels a little unsatisfying in the hand, and there are plenty of lockbacks I prefer over it. However, it offers a Zulu Spear (CASE is light on Spear blades in general) and many scale options, Barehead/Endcapped, carbon/stainless.

In the end, as with most knives, it's an aesthetics thing, which attracts you more?

Ah, I see you've opted for something different, but a good choice in my view :thumbsup:Here's some pix anyway that may help others.

Nice patina on those
I think the swayback will be my next purchase with the Tribal coming in second, since I just got a lock back fix.
I love my straight edge blades, especially my Lambsfoot and Wharncliffe trappers. I'm sure I'd love the gent as well, especially due to its size. I often opt for smaller, lighter knives as companions to an SAK, and the gent seems perfect for that.

I have to say that no one but you can decide what knife is best for you. All of us have differences in what appeals to us and yes the Tribal is a great knife but I just prefer a smaller knife and because of that I would go for a swayback hands down. I also am a Case fanboy but prefer and seek out older ones . Also if I was considering a Tribal I would seek out a USA made Schrade 3OT. I say all of that because it's my opinion of knives and like everyone else that posted really has no bearing what so ever on your purchase decision because you scratched both knives and bought a Buck because it was what you liked, as it should be.

The swayback is one of the best Case patterns in years, the fact it and the tribal are Bose designs speak volumes. The swayback is a big little knife, very handy. My favorite Case pattern.

Thanks for the link
They are quite attractive knives, and an incredible value. I haven't purchased a Buck in years and have forgotten just how well made they are. Its refreshing to purchase a knife that needs no further work.
Congrats, solphilos solphilos ! :thumbsup::cool::cool:
Although I don't own one, I agree with Ace that the 500-series Bucks are sweet lockbacks, that appeal to me MUCH more than the 110 or 112.

My feelings as well. Although I think the 110 is an attractive, well built marvel of a lock back I can see no situation where I could justify carrying one. The 500-series puts those good looks into a smaller package, and creates some handy knives for the pocket. This won't be my last :D

already have ;)
I suppose I'll end up spending some time over there, I can see myself catching the Buck bug real soon. Last thing my bank account needs

Yeah, watch out! I started hanging around there and ended up adding a 305, 105, 112 two dot, and 112 LT to my "collection" (originally consisting of a 110 two dot, 119, 503, and 704). ;):eek::D

Its a slippery slope, as we haven't learned that already here on the porch :D
I'm already having a look at the Buck custom shop, and that's going to get me into trouble.
