Help me Decide 1st Becker Purchase

The BK2 is sweet, you'll love it. I haven't tried any food prep work with mine yet, but I can say for sure that it batons and does other camp chores like a champ. Its a hefty feeling blade, that somehow manages to do small things pretty well. Its like a large knife stuffed into a smaller knifes body.

The 5 is on my list of things to get as well. And the 14. And the 9...

I wear mine scout style most of the time, and it works great when carried like that. Another popular carry style for it is to make a drop leg sheath for it.

Oh, and if you end up going with a sharpener like the lansky, remember to reposition the guide for the tip area (meaning, do the blade in sections), and make sure the guide is well seated (square) each time. Otherwise you'll end up with a funky looking edge.

Good luck man :).

Oh and the bk2 is awesome

That looks like a fun day and a great fish fry. Those are some pretty big gills especially if you caught those in ohio waters. Looks like a private dock on a large pond/small lake.

You nailed it perfectly in all respects. :)

Beckerhead #42

The BK2 is the iconic Becker in my opinion. It is what made me love Becker knives. I have two of them, I like them so much!

I have been trolling the forums for weeks trying to answer the same question. I finally made the jump today. I bought 2 BK 2s, one to use and one to keep. I also bought a Tops Prairie Fox. Looking forward getting the mail to next week!

It works.

Thanks for the photos moose. I'm sure the BK2 can do just fine for food prep chores, I just haven't tried it out yet. One of the main reasons I haven't tried it out yet is that to justify getting myself the BK2, I ordered a new chefs knife for the kitchen (my wife does most of the cooking right now, so I treated her to a new knife), and we've been playing with that since it got in.

And to the OP, theres a reason most people around here have a BK2... Its because its classic becker, and it can do whatever you throw at it. You'll love it.

I cant wait. Now I gotta carry on some decent conversation with all you "gentlemen" so that I can get my post count up. I dont think that is going to be too hard.

Cant wait until end of month to get my new BK2. I might end up getting it next week and use the excuse we need it to go camping.

I have no qualms with people posting as much as they want, I only wanted a thread to get back on track since the topic was a good one and needed more content as opposed to random chatter. Ya big baby.

This forum is going to cost me more money then my wife is going to like lol.

Great knife pictures. I am gonna need a couple Bk2s. I will wait on modifying until after I beat on a few more knives.

Geez derek stop yelling at me. It hurts my ears and my feelings :( random and mindless is the only type of chatter I got, so there. Case in point this reply. :D

Any way, OP have you considered and Ritter/becker mk2 aka the bk12 per chance? Not for your first Becker of course but maybe one down the line. They are sweeeeeet.

I'll put in a dissenting opinion. From your description of your needs, the first Becker that sprung to mind was the BK5. Its a bit lighter than the 2, and can handle everything you said you want to do.

Yep. Ritter is kinda the reason I joined this forum. I have bought a few of his CRKT knives. I was searching some reviews of his blades and stumbled onto Blade Forums.
The RSK mk2 will prolly be my 2nd BK2. I like the additions to the RSK. Especially the thumb things on the back of the spine. (yes i dont know the lingo for that thing yet)

Agreed with all of the last three posts. I think the MK2 looks awesome and quite useful (love drop points), and the BK5 seems to fit your needs a bit better. Then again, the BK2 is still excellent, so you can't really go wrong :).

And drew... they're called thumb ramps :).
