Help me decide...Blur or Avalanche?

+1 on the Blur in SG2. Excellent slicer, holds it's edge well, very easy to sharpen. The bronze/brown colour seems to make it a little more sheeple friendly as well. If you can get one for ~$75 like presz said he found, I would jump on it.

I would go with the Blur with the S30V blade. Very nice blade and handle shape. The s30v is a stonewashed finish.

I think the S30V Blur is the ideal EDC knife. The SG2 version were even greater, but the tip is very thin, so do not pry with it. ;)
(I wish the SG2 were full flat grind... :O)

I have Blurs in 440A, S30V, and SG2. They're all good, especially the S30V, and the SG2 versions. The SG2 version is pretty much the same price as the S30V model, the 440A is less expensive. The SG2 version is my choice because of the steel, the color, and the insert is an improvement. It retains the grip, or betters it while softening it to the point where it won't cause premature wear in your pocket. That SG2 steel is some really nice stuff too! Joe

I am in the same boat trying to decide btw the two. I have had spyderco's almost my entire life, now i feel it's time for a change.

How do you guys like the bit of recurve on the blur? Is it hard to sharpen?

The avalanche looks like and ideal blade shape for me, I was wondering if anyone knows if it's a hollow grind? Anyone have problems with the liner lock? (Almost all my knifes are lockbacks).

Thanks.

The Avalanche that I have has a hollow ground blade, but it is not as near as thin as the SG-2 Blur.

Sharpening: if you have the proper tool, it isn't too hard to sharpen a recurved edge. (I'm using a small, two-sided stone to sharpen, and a credit-card sized EZE-Lap fine diamond sharpener+a fine ceramic rod.) It takes some time to learn, how to do it right, but it worth the time. :)

The Avalanche is hollow grind, so the Sandvik and SG2 Blur. But the S30V Blur full flat.

(I have also several Spydies ;), but I like very much Kershaw's designs too... :))

Both are nice....

The Blur is taller, edge to spine. I am pretty sure the Avalanche is thicker.

The current Blurs have a rubber/polymer/elastomer insert rather than the old grip tape = easier on the pockets.

The texture of the Avalanche's handle is quite nice, grippy but not excessively so...

I think sales would favor the Blur, potentially based on price point.

I think I prefer the Avalanche.....

Though the angled thumbstud of the Blur is nice....

The aluminum of the Blur will show wear faster....

But, if you go with the Blur, I too would suggest the upgrade with S30V

And if that did not confuse you, let me just say, if the Blur came with a flipper, I would be on it like butter on toast....
