Recommendation? Help me decide on a reliable EDC folder around the house

Hogue Deka - great knife and will do perfectly fine, as others brought it up, quality probably better than BM.
Very good purchase on the grip and AXIS, one of the best and easy to operate locks in the industry.

With all this said, I still think any of the other 3 are slightly better slicers than Deka simply because of the blade thickness behind the edge.
If Op have good sharpening skills, Deka can be a sharp beast, but we don't know this ? Maintaining good edge on the Ritter is very important IMO.
Another thing to consider is the blade length - is Deka legal in this part of EU the OP is ? Because the MP3 and Sage are as far as I'm aware...
I sharpen my kitchen knives on a whetstone and can get a pretty good edge, kitchen knives are pretty easy to sharpen though compared to small pocket knives in my opinion. The D2 on the Elementum can keep a working edge for quite a while until I need to resharpen it. But I don’t want a knife that I constantly have to maintain to keep it in working condition.
The knife will only be used on private property, so no legal restrictions. But in terms of length I’d say around the same size as the Elementum. I have a Spyderco Urban for “outside” carry and I’ve noticed that the blade is just too short for cutting cardboard comfortably.

OP: You say you're not a "knife person" but you are certainly "overthinking" the matter like one. LOL! ;)

Personally, even before I became "knife person," I always kept an Swiss Army "Explorer" (my favorite model) lying around in various places in my house/apt and elsewhere because not only does it have a couple of knife blades but also screwdrivers, a magnifying glass, a pair of sissors and a tweezer, which are all things on the Explorer that I've used from time to time.

Started w/just one but, at last count, I own 5 of them. One is in a kitchen drawer (that I usually use to cut foil off of wine bottles), another is at my hobby desk (that I use mainly to screw/unscrew things), another is near one of my LP turntables (which I use to ream out LP center holes that are a bit too tight), one is in my travel bag and one is in my day bag.

I also own several Gerber/Leatherman multi-tools but they are usually too cumbersome to carry/store as compared w/the Explorer. These I keep in varous tool boxes and one is in my gun bag.

So, even though it doesn't meet all of your criteria, a Swiss Army Explorer is my suggestion to you for an EDC to keep in your pocket while spending time around the house.

I LOVE the Para 3 in g10. I never feel like it needs more blade. I use it for more than boxes. I’ve even cut up an onion with a dragonfly and the extra effort really wasn’t much.

I like that they have s45vn too as opposed to the lw version having bd1n. Bd1n is cool too though. The Cat has that bd1n. When I owned one I never wished it had better steel but s45vn is a lot better all around.

Well by “not a knife person” I meant that I don’t have a knife collection and that I only know the basics when it comes to pocket knives.
Yeah I know that I might be overthinking it but this is a lot of money for me to spend on a knife. Last time I spent 90€ on the Spydie Urban and I barely use that thing.
So this time I want to get it right and spend my money wisely.

I actually used to carry a Victorinox Alox for quite a while but it was just a bit too heavy in the pocket and it had no clip.

Highly recommend the Sage 5 LW with S30V steel. The compression lock is strong and easy to open/close one-handed and very comfortable ergos. The blade stays nicely centered because of the pivot bearing they use.

I somehow missed that there is a Sage 5 LW. That is now at the top of my To Buy list!

In spite of suggesting a couple of Spyderco knives: the Mini-Bugout would be excellent for light duties around the house.
I know that I love mine!

Please keep us informed on what you decide! There’s a lot of awesome suggestions. Lots of knives that I want too.

Good Lord! Just one knife for around the house?!?!?!?

I have - literally - a knife on every horizontal surface in my house - well - all of them that my wife lets me get away with having one laying there.

Get with the program man - - :D :D :D

The boring answer is an exacto knife I am sorry to say. Cuts boxes, easy one hand open/close and not a liner.

But nobody wants to walk out of this discussion with an exacto knife.

Sorry snap off knife. Those push out blade things.

Anyway. I found a fun one for you that should fit the bill without being boring.

That is a fun looking exacto knife but yeah I’m looking for a normal knife where I don’t have to keep buying blades.

I think I’ll go for the Sage 5 LW. I like the deep carry clip, full liners and the extra pivot bushing (or whatever it’s called).
The Hogue Deka is only available in blue around here from what I could find and on their website it’s pretty much sold out. I think there will be a Deka version 2 soon, but unclear when it will come to Europe. So for now I’ll go with the Sage 5 LW.

I’ll post an update if I end up liking the knife or not. If not then I’ll probably get the Deka v2.

Good list. From those, I would recommend the Bugout or para 3lw. Personally I’d go with the Bugout in CF elite scales… and if you’re feeling like a change you could always buy some aftermarket scales. For one handed opening and closing, the Bugout is the best on your list. I also find the blade shape ideal for many household tasks. Bugouts zip through cardboard and the thin profile means it is easy to keep hair-popping sharp. When I got bored with the stock scales, I switched them out with some Rockscale design scales and now it is one of the best knives I have.

I'd say look at any button lock folder! Freeman knives makes two models one in D2 and the other in S35vn. Aluminum and titanium handles respectively!!!!
Any axis lock would fit your needs also!!
Happy hunting...

So I've had the Sage 5 LW for a few days now and I gotta say it's pretty impressive. Feels like a solid knife, has a good fit in my hand, great action and ease of operation, no bladeplay whatsoever and the blade is definitely long enough for my needs. After the slight dissapointment I've had with the Spydie Urban I finally found the almost perfect knife.
Now I say almost, as I have two minor critique points, being the slightly big foot print in the pocket and the overall not too attractive design.
But as longs as it works for my cutting tasks I'm happy.

people always get a kick ! because I just youse my sebenza 21 around the house and garden work, after all its a work knife and that's what the thing was made for, but there are less costly knifes out there ! the para three would be a good pick, in the past I owned quite a lot of Spydercos, as they make some grate knifes that would meat your list.
