help me decide on an EDC Light

Thanks for the input guys I ended up going way overboard and spending $300+ on flashlights

I got a Surefire E2D LED defender
Streamlight Strion LED
Maglite XL100

+1 on the E1B Backup.

This is maybe one of the best lights that Surefire has made, it really is uniquely versatile in everyday use.

One of the problems that prevents me from EDCing the E2DL is that the clip only allows for bezel up carry, and that the bezel tears up clothing, as well as sticking out an inch from your pocket it has the tendency to grab on objects and fall out (twice).

Another good choice is HDS/Ra Clicky or s Novatac 120P EDC, but you made some good choices already.

E2D owner here. Thing is a beast. One of the best tactical purchases I have made. I live in a neighborhood in San Francisco that is infested with crack heads and bums, most of who are entirely harmless, but dont have the mental capacity to stay out of my face or my wife's face when we are just walking down the street. At night, a quick blast, not even directly at their face deters them. I feel like Moses parting the sea at times!

I have wanted a surefire light since they came out, but price to brightness, never seemed to calculate for me. I have two Fenix TK10's, and the newer TK11. I am totally satisfied with all three. The first TK10 has been flawless going on 2 yrs. I spent $75.00 on the new TK11 and by all comparison I've seen, all three beat the Surefire hands down on output. Unless you are of the mind set, that Surefire is the only light for "serious" use, you should definitely check Fenix out. It is what it is, top notch!

I like the quarks for the money. I just got in on the limited run "warm" quarks they just put on preorder. I have a quark tactical R5 right now. It's a great light that I would recommend to anybody. I will say that for just an everyday light I'd rather have their regular programmed quark. The tactical is nice but I wish you could change brightness levels quicker and easier. That may just be me though.

The fenix lights I have and have used aren't my favorite because of the somewhat purple hue. I just like a white or yellowish tint more.

I am a flashlight nut and SureFire and Ra/HDS makes the best flashlights bar none.

For your particular requirements, I think a SureFire E2DL/LX2 or Ra Clicky would be the perfect choice.

Sounds like the Streamlight Strion C4 LED fits the bill. It has everything you checked except it does not have a pocket clip. Its got a good run time and has 3 different light levels. I haven't put it through any really hard use but its seen a good amount of time being thrown around hunting, fishing, and crawling under desks at work. I also use it nightly to make the rounds and check on the dog and make sure no coyotes are trying to get into the chicken coop.

So far this light has exceeded my expectations. Most of the time I'm wearing cargo shorts and I throw it in my left front cargo pocket. If I cant use a cargo pocket I go to something smaller like my Fenix LD10. I've been meaning to get some kind of kydex or leather holster for belt carry (if needed).

The E2D is a beastly light (and it served me well for years) but I think you can buy better value lights for the cost. I've tried to break my E2D and have failed. That strike bezel has chipped through frozen lakes, ripped into 2x4's, and a (drunk) friend even hit another (drunk) friend in the forearm with it and ripped a bit of flesh out (notice the keyword is "drunk"). In the end the bezel chewed through more pockets than every helped me with anything else.

Sounds like you're looking for a more tactical EDC light. However, have you considered something like a 4 Seven Preon2? Great light, 2AAA, classy looking.

LX2, Quark tac and HDS/Ra clickie would be my recommendations. The E2DL is great, but I'm not a fan of the mode switching.

HDS: http://ralights.com/?id=ClickyTactical

This is imho the best option and Henry who designs the HDS lights is a great guy and CS is wonderful if you ever need it.
