Really?

I have never heard anyone say they do not like a SNG in their hand  Also you said you do not "own" either one, so where are you drawing all these absurd conclusions?

I do not have fat stubby fingers and yet I like the SNG. In fact it is some of the best ergos I have ever experienced

I have no dog in the fight either, so Im done here... Strider vs CRK is not what John wanted to discuss in this thread ;)

Well, I guess you heard it here first, I did not like an SNG in my hand. I'm just one guy and can only speak for myself. I am drawing my absurd conclusions from personal experience with the knife.

I do stick by my opinion that there are a lot of poor design elements in the SNG. It is however a pretty knife, well made and I'm quite sure durable, and if someone likes the knife then they should buy and enjoy it.

I'm glad you enjoy your knife, and I know you're not an oil worker, that's great. But looking at the design, using the knife and even just holding it leads me to the understanding that it's not a knife intended for delicacy of any kind. Again, that's not necessarily a bad thing, just a different design direction.

And I am not intending to make this a Strider vs. CRK issue; what I have tried to convey is that the two companies have two different design philosophies, and since throughout their lines their products share a common design language, it's fair to compare the two languages.

Edit: for what it's worth, the only reason I mentioned that I don't own either knife is to show that I am relatively unbiased. People who own nice things tend to be biased in evaluating those things for one reason or another. I have evaluated both knives and personally decided to go a different direction than either of them; not better or worse, just different.

I know a lot of people that don't like the SNG....but I have NEVER heard someone question design. I STRONGLY disagree with this statement. They might not be for you, but don't point fingers at this design if you are not even using it as it was intended, I.E. as a heavy duty tool for on duty officials and military personnel. If you are using this for its intended purposes, then I apologize in advance

I should also mention that in terms of hand feel, the SNG is very much the kind of knife for someone who has fat fingers and works on an oil rig; it is not a comfortable knife for most people, but for people who are used to working with rough large tools in dirty environments, it will be an excellent fit. The Sebenza is very much not the knife for that kind of person.

That statement seems to imply you have surveyed "most people" and are not just speaking for yourself, which your later posts says in the backpeddling reply to So-Lo. So don't be surprised when people question where you are getting such "most people" data

I have no idea who these "most people" are because I happen to feel that the ergo's on the SNG blow the Sebenza out of the water and have also read that comment from most replies in these threads. In fact, the SNG ergo's rank with the best folders made, IMO.

my next knife will DEFINITELY be another SnG.... dunno WHAT I was thinkin' 'bout when I sold the two I had.... I consider the Spyderco Military the best knife ever made, but in CO >4" seems to not necessarily be illegal, but definitely confiscatable... SnG is in the clear even in urban areas!!! In my experience, the SnG is an easy 2nd to the Millie... at 3x the cost... whatever. I dig the knife, and it costs what it does... I'd put the Seb 3rd, but for me pretty far behind the SnG...

I have my first Paramilitary on the way.... I reckon I'll like it, but honestly I'm not toooo excited about the compression lock... we'll see! ...YouTube review to follow.

Which model SNG will you be getting?

I'd like any one with stonewashed blade and ti...sure, I'd prefer a CC or GG, but SnGs are seemingly difficult to pick and choose options on...just have to be patient I reckon. The two I've had just popped up when I had expendable cash or a tasty trade offer... It really does not matter... I can't afford one at the moment... I just bought an Oris Titan Dive watch!...LOVIN it BTW... It'll be a few months B4 I get a "new" SnG.

Uhh, since you are asking anonymous forum posters for their opinions on your purchase, I recommend a $100 dollar knife so that you will actually use it without (as much) fear of losing it.

A quasi-example? Bradley Alias versus CRK Sebbie. Essentially the same materials. Is the Seb really worth the xtra $300? Well then, which one would you freak out about more if it fell out of your pocket in a parking lot and became someone else's EDC?

i dont think im in the minority here, but i carry and use all my folders to some degree. and several were far more than $100.

while i do often pocket check myself, it is more out of habit than for fear of losing my knife.

and ive also lost a very expensive folder. :(

I'm pretty sure he has an alias already, he also has a sebenza.
I'm pretty sure I can accurately say that he thinks the sebenza is worth the extra money. Oh and it would be an extra $200 not $300.

Thanks for your post fernando.

I have an Alias 1.When I first got it,I thought it was the best folder ever. Then I got a large classic Sebenza w/inlays.Well,I was (& still am) blown away by the quality of this knife. Is it worth $200 more?IMHO,hell yea!
They may be pretty much the same materials, but that's where it ends. The Alias isn't even in the same ballpark as the Seb as far as I'm concerned.

Oh yea,I'd be crushed if I lost it!:o I don't lose stuff easily though.I can't even remember the last time I lost anything of little or large value.

Have you considered one of the Rockstead folders? They are very well made and unbelievably sharp. Last week, at the only one gun show we have in Italy, I've seen the Rocksetad C.O. banging the knife edge against dry bamboo and then push cutting effortlessly through a phone book (1 and 1/2 high) and 3/4 dia manilla rope. The blade was still shaving/carving paper after that. He also invited us to try and do the same to the knife and I tell you we were all quite impressed!!!
Very expensive though (at least here in Italy)

Good luck on your folder search.
I once found a Sebenza in the back seat of a cab in NY. :D

So-Lo was so kind as to lend me a Strider SNG Digi-Cam/Gunner Grip & a Small Plain Sebenza. The edges were re-profiled,so I can't really comment on the original cutting performance. These are both great slicers though, with the edge So-Lo put on them.

Short write up~

Small Sebenza-

Action-Very smooth,solid lock up

Ergonomics-I love the way the brushed titanium feels in the hand.I could only get a three finger grip on this one though.

Conclusion-It's too small for my hands.I can't see myself getting a small Sebbie for this reason.

Strider SNG-

Action-Not smooth at all,a real pain to close, rock solid lock-up

Ergonomics-Perfect for my large hands,I like the way I could "choke up" on the knife using the choil.

Conclusion-Undecided.Unless I can take one apart,& get it to open & close smoothly,I'm not sure if I'd get one.I'm thinking the CC version with the smooth G10 might be a little easier on the thumb, but I don't know.

I'm going to carry them around for a few days & see if either one grows on me.
These are two completely different knives.I can't see how they are compared so often.

I've come to the conclusion that I'll be getting an Emerson CQC-12.

Neither one of these(SNG & Sm Sebbie) do very much for me.

Although I love the ergos on the SNG,the stiff action & the thumbbreaker were the deal breaker for me.

 Thanks to everyone for your helpful suggestions :)
