Help me Decide

So just read the thread what to do and it amazes me how unappreciative people can be. It made me see what kind of company ethic that Kershaw has and I think I need one.

I also posted in the other thread that I do not own a Kershaw. I was just digging through stuff and realized I do. I'll post a pic below but I never warmed up to this knife. It is made well though.. just has some things I don't want in a knife. Bought one for the girlfriends kid a few years ago as well and the spring assist did not last but a few months so I would just rather not bother with the frustration of one.

I do not want assisted opening.
I do not want aluminum handle.

What I do want in a knife is:

Deep pocket carry
Ambidextrous clip.
3-3 1/2 inch blade.
moderate to heavy duty (sensible) use. I will not try to baton through a tree with it.
G10 or micarta handles
Frame lock or liner lock.

So Kershaw experts knowing this what would be my choices?

My favorite for medium duty work is my Storm, stainless handle with trac tec inserts, recurve blade to get a good bite, takes a good working edge easily and holds it well. The JYD might be a good choice too, but I don't have one, never warmed up to the look.

pm or email me your address - I'll loan you my skyline for a few months if you would like to try one out.
it's small, thin, light, holds a decent edge, has a flipper and rides well in pocket.
the previous owner painted the scales tan and it won't hurt my feelings if you feel the need to reprofile it.
I also won't freak out if the edge gets dinged chopping up boxes and accidentally hitting a staple.

I fell for the Skyline when I first saw it a few years ago but then noticed no lefty clip and the clip placement doesn't let it ride deep enough in the pocket. It is a cool knife though.

I think this is where I get hung when I look at Kershaws. I love the JYD but can't stand the clip. No offense to anyone, just not my thing. Not a big fan of recurves either. I was just looking on the Bay and saw a cool little blade called the nerve but again, no lefty option.

Then saw another one I liked called the Rake but it has speed assist I think. Guess I really just need to research the knives since I am basically unfamiliar with the line. So far just looked at some Kershaw knives, next up going to check out the ZT's.

I have a Rake - and yes, it is A/O -- a feature I used to hate, but it's pretty nice on this one -- strong spring. (but yes, there are times i wish the feature could be turned off) also not a deep carry knife.
If you want to try that one out, I'd loan it to you as well.

OD-1? Steel framelock with G10 on the non-lock side, simple pocket clip, very clean design, about 3" of blade...
Also, perhaps the RAM?

Not a deep carry then it's probably a no go for me. Thanks for offering me your knife collection. :) That is super cool of you!!!

Looked at that one as well and ran into the same thing with the pocket clip. Hate those things digging into my hip and sticking out. Nice looking little blade though. Funny I am looking down at a steno pad where I have been taking notes as I was looking around and next to the RAM I put what the hell is the lock? Ugly as hell. Might work haha. If I just went by looks she would not get a date to the prom but you know what, it looks like a super comfy knife and very functional. The lock is a new one for me. Is there a liner or something and that is an additional safety? Guess I don't get it.

The upcoming ZT 0560 is the only knife I can think of right now that fits all of the requirements you listed perfectly. There are a few that come close, though.

Haha, damn straight. The RAM is one of my favourite knives, but it might just be the ugliest knife I've ever owned. It definitely went back for a second helping of ugly, but damned if it doesn't work like a charm.

I really like the Hawk Lock - it lets you close the knife without putting your fingers anywhere near the path of the blade, it's very smooth, it lets you flick the knife open and closed like a CBBL or Axis lock, and as far as I can tell it's quite durable. Some of them take a little bit of time to break-in, apparently, but mine was pretty sweet right out of the box.

After reading, I'd give a +1 to the Knockout and 0560 suggestions. The A/O can be disabled, so a couple minutes of disassembly and I'm sure you'll be impressed!

So after reading all of your suggestions and looking at knife after knife I have pretty much decided on getting the knockout. Problem is, it's out of stock everywhere I look. That blows haha.

The problem with disabling the speedafe is that there usually isnt anything left to keep the blade closed because they lack a detent.

I would get a JYD and have a lowrider clip put on. The blade isn't a recurve, btw. The Skyline tapped for a lowrider clip would be the other option.

The G10 + lowrider clip + non-assisted + frame/liner lock criteria pretty much leaves you with only the ZT0560/561 for an out of the box Kershaw/ZT.

I'm not sure how it would work with the Knockout specifically, but a lot of the larger Speedsafe knives work fine when you remove the torsion bar. I know the Blur and the Cyclone, for example, work fine as manual knives. Some of the smaller ones, like the Leek and IIRC the other smaller 'onion' knives (chive, scallion, leek) don't have a functional detent, so they wouldn't work.

Well knowing me, when I start with one and like it, there will be others. After not finding the Knockout (which I'm still interested in) I picked up a RAM.

Figured they were on death watch so I would give the ugly feller a try. Gooeytek I am not going to try to disable anything on any one of them. I took a knife apart once and, well, we'll just leave it at that. :)

I still like the look of the JYD and the Skyline. I may grab one at some point.

If you can find a lowrider clip that works for ZTs, it will work on the Skyline as well.
