Help me find a blade (requirements changed!)

Second vote for the Steel Will mini cutjack. M390 and G10 with liners. Fast and responsive bearing flipper. The finger choil gives you a much better hold than a delica or mini grip.
Should be under 140 too.
I love my Mini Cutjack. I generally don't care for flippers, but this one changed my preferences entirely. Been carrying it everyday for the last 8 months. It is a liner lock and Delica sized.

Bugout half liners are a non issue OP. CF scales will stiffen it up some though.

Para 3 w/ Lynch Clip solves the riding high in pocket.

Unfortunate indeed. SILLY RABBITS !

Save up for the Carbon Fiber 940 it's worth it.

Mine is perfect (so I know they can do it if they try).
give it just one more try.
If they screw you a fourth time I will join you and we can hang around their back door and eat their children.

sorry man. 3 tries and Benchmade failed me.

sorry man. 3 tries and Benchmade failed me.

I understand.
One day though you may come across a knife that you just can't get out of your mind.
On that day you will be determined to defeat the gremlins . . . taking no prisoners . . . until you klimb the stairs in the tower and claim your grail !

The 940-1 Carbon Fiber may not be that knife for you.

For me it was the Boker Large Stockman in Deep Red Smooth Bone.
Three tries . . . three sucky knives.
I was determined to have this knife; that handle has an allure for me that is pathological . . .
Fortunately I was able to FIX the problem with the third knife my self.

No I should not have had to do this to a brand new and not inexpensive (relatively speaking) German made knife.
But I did.
And I did.
And now I can shut up and relax and enjoy my plunder. Ripped from the cold dead hands of those smug Gremlin bastards.

Embrace your inner Viking.
( YMMV )

The 940-1 was almost $300 and they couldn't get the grind and axis lock right?

Yes that is inexcusable.
I originally thought you meant you got one of the funny green aluminum things.
They seem to not be able to get one of those together to save their lives.

WHOA . . . you got a bad Carbon fiber one !
What's the world coming to ?

Still though . . . I usually plan on reprofiling what ever I get and lock stick "breaks in" . . . right after you take the knife apart and polish the surfaces with a little emory cloth / sandpaper.

Or . . . Or . . . you could get a new-in-box from a seller here in the exchange that has good reviews and swears to the build of the knife they are selling to you at an exorbitant "finder's fee". ;) :(

Carry your para 2 and don t pay attention to the people at work, unless one is your boss. The attention of others might be your imagination.

For work, where carrying a knife is frowned upon, I now tend toward smaller and lighter.
Two that I carry, that can be had in your price range, are the Spyderco Mantra2 and Positron (cf version). Mine are, I believe, 2.8 and 2.6 oz, respectively. Both have smaller than usual Spyder holes, so no blade bulge; plus, their size and weight make it easy to forget that they're there.

I would HIGHLY recommend that you get a Spyderco Chaparral in any scale material. This little jewel has a blade close to the mini Grip in length, but the overall size of the knife is much, much smaller and slimmer, while still allowing a full 4 finger grip. The blade steel is top notch and the blade is very thin and cuts like a light saber.

The other knife I would recommend, if you can find one, is a Spyderco Caly3 in ZDP-189 and Carbon Fiber. Excellent knife.

Mini Cutjack G-10 M390. Awesome knife. I have the mini & the large. I also have the mini D2 Frn to knock around. The M390 version is made in italy and I can only think of good things to say about it. Great ergo's great steel and action that I can only describe as fluid or hydraulic. I guess you figured out that I like the knife. Also I recommend the Crux, it is a collaboration between Ferrum Forge/Massdrop and WE Knife. They are now available in 3 styles and 3 colors I think. S35 all Ti masterpiece $125.00 woth at least $175-200. carries small but it's a full size. I have had it for 6 month's and it actually gets alot of pocket time. Both these knives are in your budget and both are great knives
If you want to have some fun you can also look at a few of the front flippers, alot of fun but either you love it or hate it.

MCUSTA also has several models that might be right for you (some with nice laminated blades).

Different dealers often have these knives in differing configurations, so it often pays to see what different dealers have to offer.

We'll, I'd encourage you to rethink the Taichung thing. Because by features desired you described the Sage 5.

One not mentioned is the Lil Native. It is small, G10, compression lock, deep carry, S30V, and even made in Golden, CO. It is very small, but seems like it will satisfy your needs for a quality, fun, and serious knife, albeit with a 2.5 inch blade.

No one has mentioned the Native yet. Hopefully they'll release one with a compression lock next. The lock back is fine and feels like a throwback in ways. The LW has the best ergos around, and steals carry time for me. I didn't like the G10 version but you may.

Buy anyway, enjoy your Sage 5....

Here's a picture of the Mantra2 and Positron, with a Delica4 for size reference.
Of course, I just looked back at your post, and saw that you don't like frame locks...which rules out the Mantra2. The Positron is a liner lock

What doesn't show in that picture is that both of them have the wire deep carry clip

Mantra? If the only thing you disliked about the delica was the scales then the mantra is great for you(even though it's a spyderco flipper...)
EDIT: just seen that you said no framelocks...

You know what would make a great office knife that doesn’t meet any of your requirements?

A Spyderco Squeak in Titanium. The blade is ELMAX.

They were a sprint run but are still available and the price has dropped considerably.

They are great little knives that feel great in the hand. And no one would bat an eye at a Sqeak.

Just a thought.

If I m trying not to draw attention to a pocket knife at work, I ll probably not take a flipper. That “switch blade” will scare any civilized co worker.

Think about a Native 5.

Is the positron an assisted flipper? i.e. does it have a spring that can break? I tend to stay away from those generally.

Guess what I did. I went to a mom and pop knife store and bought a 940-1. Grind, Axis lock and blade centering are near perfect. I guess 4 times the charm. Can we be best friends now?

I just bought probably one of the most reviled knives on the planet, a Spyderco Southard Positron. She is a beauty (in my eyes) and the action is almost as good as my 0450cf. I found that most if not all the "issues" people said they had, for me turned out to be non issues. It would flourish in a cubicle farm.

I don't know what the price would be south of the border, but up here with the exchange it should put it below $140.

edit: I just noted that you already bought one so disregard the above.
