Hello friends on the porch. I could use some help finding a knife, which I am not sure exists at my price point.

I want a smallish Slipjoint, 3.5" or so closed , carbon steel, one clip blade one wharncliffe blade. A clip+sheepsfoot would also be a great alternative.

The case wharncliffe mini trapper is nearly perfect! But I have not had a stainless case knife and tru-sharp stainless is the only blade material option. I think if prefer a carbon steel.

I am flexible on handle material. I am not looking to spend much. It will be a user. Say<$80.

Thanks very much for your ideas!

I guess I won't suggest the Case wharncliffe mini-trapper then. I have the Carhartt version with as-ground blades and love it.
RR has a muskrat with a sheepsfoot. They'd be stainless too, though. You're sure you need stainfull?
I believe I've seen the sheepsfoot muskrat called "improved" and "Hawbaker". Somebody might make a stainfull one.

Case make the mini- trapper wharncliffe in CV. It's there "Hunter" series.

Whoa?!? I have never seen such a thing. That would be perfect! A few searches with the Google machine did not find this unicorn. Is there a model number or something? Thanks!

What about the GEC saddle trapper?

-Not my photo-

It is made in 2012 and now discontinued. Model 5107W CV Rancher. Sorry, I said "Hunter" in my earlier post. Maybe why you could not find one.

I have sent you a visitor message with one for sale. Cheers.

Here is another single blade Wharnie from Case in CV. Larger than the Mini- Trapper.

Apologies for posting pictures of this knife for about the 5th time....

If you're not too attached to the jack array (2 blades side by side), I would suggest looking at conductors, half whittler, senators, and pen knives. These often can be found with a clip point blade and a coping, which is essentially a smaller sheepsfoot.

Also, consider stockman pattern knives, which have 3 blades, but usually always a clip, a sheepsfoot, and a spey as the third. Those seem more readily available in carbon steel to give you the combo you want.

I had not seen this GEC before, it is excellent. It is a little larger than what I am looking for but nearly perfect. I think I'd have to find a user to stay in budget. Thanks for bringing this model to my attention.

Thanks for this. I did find a couple examples, they all seem to be single blade wharncliffe versions. Good looking knives and I would snap up a 2 blade clip+wharncliffe if I ever see one.

Good suggestions. I am actually carrying a 2 blade congress pen right now. Its my most carried knife. The reasons I was looking at jack patterns was because I really want 2 full size blades.

This might be up your alley. Slightly larger than 3.5 but hey...

They made them in 2014 in Blackwood, pioneer (frontier?) bone, the sawcut, abalone and a red bone that came out kinda pink.

^that is an awesome looking knife. I have seen one before in the Barlow thread and had forgotten about it. I like the shape of the wharncliffe even better than the saddle trapper and I don't own a Barlow yet. Love the saw-cut bone. Just gorgeous.

Try just typing in wharncliffe trappers or barlows and see what pops up. I don't think yer gonna find one of the above in your price range (post #13) but hey, who knows? Some of the GEC stockmen have a nearly full sized wharnie in them, but I couldn't say which ones. Research will help. Good luck.
Thanks, Neal

I purchased that 77 off the exchange for $75 about 6 months ago. But yea, you have to get lucky...

Have definitely searched wharncliffe trappers and had not found what I was looking for which is why I came here.

Right on. Well GEC is probably your best bet. Good luck, and watch the traditional exchange.👍
Thanks, Neal
Ps-oh yeah!! Look at A.G. Russell! His sowbelly trapper is great, maybe too big is all. Actually just checked and it's 4 1/4" , so probably too big.

GEC also made their 48 pattern trapper with a clip and Wharncliffe.
It's a little bigger than what you're looking for at 3 7/8".
